Starting in damp weather 1993 240 wagon, auto/od, 235k miles

1993 volvo 240 wagon with 235K miles, automatic, running great UNTIL:
Car sits overnite in damp/rain/misty weather, starting it is a horror, cranks forever then finally chugs, coughs, spits, and catches, then runs just as fine as always...shut it off and it starts right up again, just fine...
Only happens in damp/wet weather
Only after sitting overnite.
Once started, it runs fine, no further issues til next damp morning...
Any help greatly appreciated

Perhaps you need a new cap and roter a new spark plug wire set. they don;t like moisture. also check to see if you have any broken or leaking vacuum hoses. the worse case senerio would be that your head gasket is leaking--at cold temps a little antifreeze will enter until everything warms up and it seals shut due to metal expanding. but since you say it's cold weather only--this probably wou;dn't be the case. good luck.

1st. Congratulations on having 235K miles! I've got another 50K to catch up to you, very encouraging. Try pcmforless.com these guys have a good rap for reprogramming Trailblazer computers, not very expensive either and can have it back to you in 2 days.

235k miles. cut off one time going down road, immediately restarted. a week later after cutting off would not restart in 8 long cranks. 5 mins later cranked. next morning after starting 2 different time...

I have seen crank sensors go and leave no codes, but, likely the fuel pump is going away...they get hot and seize, then cool down and work again. I would not replace either without proper testing only because parts are expensive and there are other heat sensitive components in there. (coil etc) Be aware that it will check out good if it is running right while tests are being done.

1993 caprice seems to shift slow..engine races like its in neutal

Your problem is that the transmission has gone beyond it's life expectancy with 235k. A host of Internal complications can be expected; seals become brittle, clutch plates become worn, pumps become weak and etc. Any remedy outside a replacement or rebuild will be temporary and indefinite. I have tried, (with limited success) adding a pint of brake fluid to transmission oil to soften the seals. With 235k, it can't hurt and may get you some extra miles out of it.

How much longer will my engine last?

they all last to 235k, you may want to get to a dealer soon.

I'd be tempted to pull cover off & check belt too, or a quick compression test, to see what it tells me.
