Yes replace the fuel filter, and put some fuel injector cleaner in, possibly just trash in the line

SOURCE: idles poorly , and its like its starving for fuel or air

1. Vacuum leaks. Check all mounting bolts at the intake, check all hoses by wiggling them around. Listen with stethoscope or a length of fuel hose held up to your ear with engine running. You will be looking for a hissing sound. 2. Check egr valve. 3. Check air filter. 4. Check timing belt. ( you will need a timing light) If the mark is jumping around, your belt has jumped. If it stays basically in one place, it's good. 5. Check camshaft lobes. 6. Valves burnt or leaking. 7 Dirty or clogged injectors. 8 . Faulty idle control system.

SOURCE: 2005 Ford Escape Rough Idle - engine code state lean fuel mixture

I recommend getting a repair manual from an auto store for your vehicle. They run $15 to $20. It will tell you exactly how to do everything you asked and also give you the values that should be expected. Hope this helps.

2004 Ford Focus ZX5 - car skips beats/rhythm while idling. Random w/ no set pattern.

can be a few ideas: check plug wires, misfiring, check the plug, if you dont have plugs, than check the [ where the plug should be]
it could be the timing belt slipping, in the 1970 we had timing chains that would last for every, but some one got idea is to put a belt in so at 60-70 thousand miles you need to replace timing belt.

How do I correct the idle problem it is to low

if it still runs, then the idle isnt really too low. if you have an automatic and you shift it into gear then the car dies, then it is too low. but the point of a car idling is to have the engine run on as little fuel as physically possible so a low idle is good however if the car dying when shifted into gear is the problem, then the idle control regulator may need to be adjusted which requires equipment and is best done by people with the equipment or the car may simply need a tune up so the engine runs better with what the idle control regulator says it should take. tune ups can be done at home but they usually go it better at a shop. hope this helps!

Light flashing in bottom left of dashboard on a ford focus automatic, orange light, and the car is shuddering when going slow, any ideas?

Any time you get a light on the dash,of any vehicle ,you need to check your owners manual.
Next ,you need a code reader or better yet,a scan tool hooked to the vehicles diagnostic connector, under the dash to check for codes. I am really suprised at the hundreds,if not thousands of people that don't know that.
The vehicle symptoms will be found, after your have a code(if any) and follow some type of testing proceedure.

On my 1998 ford focus, the revs seem pretty low when it ticks over. under braking the revs drop even lower, sometimes to the point where it cuts out. Any ideas ?

You have described a concern where as the idle air control valve has fialed or there is a vacuum leak in the PCV hose causing a lean condition.

Low coolant and oil smells like gas. No white/blue

let your car idle go back to the tail pipe if it seems to be steaming alot , and or smells like antifreeze then you have a head gasket problem or a gasket leak alowing in directly into your engine
