Hi Richard, I'm not an expert on Jags, just a little jealous I don't have one. Looks like a very nice vehicle. Have a close look, inspecting all hoses and vacuum pipes on the intake manifold side of the engine for any damage or loose fitting. The problem seems to be a leakage of air which is raising the idle speed. Regards John

SOURCE: Car won't pull back speed when foot off accelerator

Very possibly a vacuum issue. Maybe a line that needs vacuum for the trans is on an inlet that effects the throttle. Not sure how old your vehicle is.

SOURCE: jaguar x type...started the car

if there is also black smoke coming out the exhaust - and the problem is intermittent - then it's the EGR valve - it sticks open - will need replacing.... Happened to mine this morning and this is what the Jaguar Assistance guy said. Mine is a 2006 2 litre X-type.

SOURCE: engine wont back off speed when foot taken off accelerator

Jaguar has a cleaning procedure for these cars . The TBI needs to be cleaned and the throttle body relay needs to be changed /replaced. I am sure the Yellow ck engine light is on with a throttle motor code in the PCM

SOURCE: engine wont back off speed when foot taken off accelerator

low voltage to the Throttle Body unit causes this problem along with a dirty buttery fly . Have the throttle body cleaned asper Jaguar cars service spec and replace the throttle body motor relay located in the engine compartment center row 2nd back . Then dissconnect the battery for 30 minutes and reconnect .

2004 Kia Rio idle air control valve had a hair line fracture replaced it with a new one, now when you give the accelerator a quick rev and remove your foot off the accelerator the rpm stays high for about...

That valve is going to have to be calibrated to 1100 RPM with the air on........You may be able to open a cover and adjust the pentle.. the Hondas you lightly bottom them then back off about 1/16th of an inch turn.....

.Engine stalls, won't idle, bucks at 3700rpm

Sounds like mass airflow sensor to me or your timing jumped. Probably high miles too, eh? Could possibly be voltage regulator but I highly doubt it.

Elantra won't start and moves when it's in park

I'm going to say something happened to the cable between the shifter and the transmission. There is a switch on the transmission that prevents you from starting the engine in anything other than park or neutral. The transmission is probably in reverse or drive which would allow it to roll.
Someone would need to check the lever on the trans where the shift cable is attached.

Oil pressure guage pushes to 80 when not idling.

In an engine in good condition, oil pressure is a function of RPM. Higher rpm, higher pressure. Whne coasting downhill, in gear, the engine rpm will increase, hence, the oil pressure will go up, as required, and as expected.

There is nothing wrong with your engine, unless the oil pressure goes excessively high under any regime. Low oil pressure is a sign of low rpm, or under load, a sign of worn parts.

Engine revs up to 3000-4000 rpm all by itself

THERE IS A TEMPERATURE SENSOR ON MOTOR WHICH CAUSES THIS PROBLEM... USUALLY IT SHOWS A NEGATIVE TEMP READING WHICH CONFUSES THE COMPUTER CAUSING IT TO REV UP....HAVE THE ENGINE DIAGNOSED ON A SCANNER....GOOD LUCK...
