It is behind the glove compartment. It has to be removed.

This is from Ehow.com - - 4. Pull the glove compartment out of the dash. Disconnect the light wire once the glove compartment is about halfway out. 5 Press the tabs on both sides of the cabin filter cover towards the middle of the filter compartment to unhook them. Remove the cabin filter cover. 6 Slide the old filter out of the filter housing. Read more: How to Change the Cabin Filter on a Mitsubishi Endeavor | eHow.com

SOURCE: trying to change the cabin air filter

1. Open glove box
2. Unhook elastic retainer on right side
3. Locate the two "stop tabs", one on the upper left and the other on the right side. Push both to the left to clear their stops and the glove box will swing down, allowing access to the filter cover.

SOURCE: cabin filter element location

Filter is located behind the glove box. All you need is a screwdriver to replace.

1. Open the glove box and empty to take the weight off the box.

2. On the right side there is a plastic hinge like device held on by one Phillips head screw. If you have trouble removing with a Phillips screwdriver you can remove with a narrow flat head screwdriver. Remove the screw and slide hinge off the mount.

3. To drop the glove box press the sides slightly inwards while 'forcing' it open beyond it's normal stopping point. Careful as when it releases it will fall wide open and may even fall from its hinged area. Set it aside.

4. Behind the glove box there is probably some fiberous material inserted to prevent noise like squeaking when it rubs. It is sticky on one side to hold it in place. Just remove and place out of the way.

5. Behind the fiberous material there'll be a cover which kinda looks like a grille. Mine was white and it is in the center of the opening. Remove it by releasing the clips at the left or right. It comes right out.

6. When the cover comes off slide the filter out and replace it. The filter lays flat and just slides in and out easily. However, if it has been some time since you replaced be prepared for a lot of debris on top of the filter such as leaves, grass or other general type of debris that has been sucked into the filter. It also may be the source of any bad odors that you smell through the air conditioning system.

7. Reverse the process. Replace the cover and push the glove box lid back into place. When you replace the glove box be careful to make sure the hinge you initiallly removed the screw from is not left behind the glove box or you will have to remove again to get it out. Replace the screw and do not over tighten as it screws into plastic and then your done.

SOURCE: cabin air filter, location

It's located on the engine compartment firewall, passenger-side. Open the hood, stand by the right front wheel and you'll see the fasteners to remove forward of the wipers. Fasteners are removed by pushing the center in, then pulling them out. To replace. pull the center out, replace it, then push it flush to lock.

Good luck and hope this helps.

I recently acquired a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant SE. I attempted to change the cabin air filter only to discover the location is sealed. How do I change the filter?

This filter is an optional item and may or may not be dealer installed.

The procedures in this article are typical of most Misubishi vehicles.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1. The filter is located behind the glove compartment. Open the glove compartment, (disconnect damper rod, if equipped) push on the sides while pulling down to release the latches. Allow the glove box to swing down on its hinges.

2. Remove the 2 air filter screws.

Some vehicles may not have an installed cabin air filter, but may have a sealed filter compartment. In such cases, the sealed compartment will need to be punched-out and a new air filter frame acquired before a cabin air filter can be installed.
NOTE:
The filter is optional and may not be installed in all vehicles. If the filter compartment is sealed as shown, use a flat head screwdriver to punch through the perforated plastic cover. Some vehicles may not have the filter frame pre-installed in the compartment. If so, accquire the filter frame before installing filter element.

3. Remove cabin air filter. Remove the old filter frame (if present) by sliding it out towards you. Remove old filter from its frame and install new filter, ensuring that Air Flow arrow is pointing down.

4. Install in reverse order.

Location of the cabin filter

Not sure about that car in specific but most cars have their cabin air filters where the front passengers feet would be. There maybe a plastic cover you need to remove and maybe a screw and the filter should drop down.
