My car is making a loud thumping noise, it appears to be coming from the back tires, however it is effecting the entire car. The thumping is continual throughout the entire duration of my trip. The thumping increases as the car accelerates (increased speed is directly related to increased intervals of thumping.) The thumping decreases quickly when I (very abruptly) apply the breaks, however if I apply the breaks slowly the car continues to thump at a decreasing intervals. The thumping appears to be fully eliminated only when the car is at a complete stop or when I am turning the wheel at 90 degrees. Also, the car shakes violently (vibrations increase dramatically as the speed increases.) The car vibration is a new symptom that began at the same time the thumping began. There is extreme interior noise caused by both the thumping and vibrations. Also, the car seems to accelerating much more slowly than normal. It is noisy and scary to drive. Please help!
Rear shocks are over the hill. This causes your rear wheels to bump on the road. Replace shocks and have tyres checked with high speed on the car balancer.
Many times, rear tires that are out of round or severely cupped or feathered, or that are out of balance can create this type of issue. My first recommendation would be to have them and the wheels on the rear of the car inspected. There may not seem like there is much wrong visibly if you look at just the tread of the tires, but a good tire tech can spin them up and give you some solutions, and the inspection itself is inexpensive. Hope this helps.
SOURCE: Vibration on acceleration
when some vheel missing weight , the vibration begins at 40-45 mph, now if begins at any moment of acceleration ,check inner drive shafts , no outer joints
SOURCE: Steering wheel vibrates thumping noise
At what speed do you feel the shake and does it only happen when you apply the brakes?
