Same thing here. The engine does not shut off but you stop moving and can't excellerate. I was told it may be the antitheft thing. Not sure. Ford is giving me the run around saying its everything but. Same thing here. The engine does not shut off but you stop moving and can't excellerate. I was told it may be the antitheft thing. My 06 Expedition is doing the same thing...going into failsafe mode. I have also had a low tire pressure light on for six months that they cannot fix! As far as the fail safe mode, they have quoted me over $800 to replace the sensor in the throttlebody. My 06 Expedition is doing the same thing...going into failsafe mode. 2005 Expedition. My car, without warning, displays the "engine failsafe mode" randomly while driving. It's pretty terrifying. The car just dies without warning. I have to turn it off, then restart and it's ok. Anyone know what this is?

Check engine light on , failsafe mode . The first thing to do would be to hook up a scan tool an check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . Was the vehicle overheating ? Failsafe mode will shut the vehicle off to save the engine if it is over heating . Do you know if the vehicle has electronic throttle control ? Was their a yellow wrench symbol lit on the instrument cluster as well ?
The dealer is correct but any auto prts store caqn bring the codes up for free as they want to sell you the parts to fix it. Failsafe is involve with exhaust emmissions and the car needs fixed noe before the parts are failed
Your pickup should have thrown a stored code if it has shut down. Get the code extrracted, and see if it indicates a sensor along with something else. I would advise you to install an after market gauge which operates independantly fron the existing oil pressure circuit to verify that it is a low oil pressure condition the next time it happens.Could be a faulty sensor, but it needs to be verified first.
truck needs to be scanned for the codes, most major parts stores will do this for little or no charge, get back to me with the codes and we'll go from there
Sounds to me like the mass airflow meter, cutting in and out. When faulty it can completely shut a car off, and also ingauge limp mode. I hope this helps. Let me know how you get on.
