1999 Plymouth Breeze 2.0 SOHC I just replaced the timing belt because the old one had not broke but rather had eaten off all the teeth so the timing was off. I set the timing mark on the crank to TDC and the timing mark on the cam to TDC but when I turn it over it sounds like it wants to start but just backfires a bit. Do you think that the crank timing should be TDC and the Cam timing BDC or does one advance it or what? Could you please help...

I'm having the same problem. Open the distributor and see if it is starting with the number one spark plug. I'm still working on my car now when I'm done and it starts I will touch base with you if it starts. If you find any information let me know. Thank you!

When changing the timing belt you need to place the cam shaft a TDC( clock wise), then rotate the crankshaft to TDC (clockwise), then back off the crankshaft (counter clockwise) THREE TEETH then back (clockwise) 1/2 tooth before TDC place your timing belt arround the crankshaft- water pump- and camshaft finally putting arround the tensioner pulley, holding 25 flbs of torque on the tensioner pulley to get the correct tension then push up on the hydrolic tensioner and tighten and you should have it.... rotate the crankshaft twice, if the camshaft pulley ends back on TDC then you have it correct.

You better get the specs correct or you can have major problems if this is an invasive motor. You can smoke an invasive type motor if you are not careful. Be sure before proceeding. Good Luck

I have a 1999 plymouth breeze and replaced water pump and timing belt due to pump locked up and all the teeth gone off belt now. 2.0 SOHC that after setting belt and timing correctly the car wont start...

In general, backfiring indicates the cam, crank and ignition are out of time or out of phase. The timing marks on the crank and cam just line up the timing of the cam and crank. The alignment of the spark with them has to be phased at the right time too. Check the manual for how to set the distributor timing after an engine repair

Reset timingbelt on 1999 plymouth breeze sohc 2.0

When you break a timing belt, you get a kit with a new
water pump,pulley's,tensioners & belt

Also you get an instruction manual to follow for
the timing of the cams & such

If you only bought a belt, you should also have instructions

Nothing-- then you go to the internet & find a picture & also
can watch You Tube Video

If the belt broke-- what about bent valves,BEFORE,before
you address the belt replacement

Good time to do a cylinder leak down test

How much should a dealership charge to replace timing belt and water pump on 1999 Plymouth Breeze 2.0?

it depends what their door rate is to do the job and they can charge what they can as far as parts are concerned.you don`t say if its a dohc or a sohc(dual or single cam motor).roughly it would take about 3.5-5 hours to change the timing belt and about .4-.7 to change the water pump.call around and compare prices as this doesn`t have to be done at a dealer.

Will timing belt repair on 2.5 plymonth breeze bend valves/1999 year

Are you sure it's a 2.5 as the Breeze didn't come with a 2.5. It did come with a 2.4, If this is the case it is a non-interference engine so if the belt broke you most likely didn't bend the valves. I hope this helps you and good luck.

My car jump time

#1 are you sure it jumped time?#2 how do you know this? if in fact it has jumped time you will need to have the timing belt replaced.the average interval for replacement is 60,000-80,000.it is also a good idea to replace the water pump at the same time as it is driven by the timing belt.
