Hi i have a code 1294 coming up on my car, and i can not pass the inspection because if this code.any ideas? car starts easy but with a force of power...loud start and idles rough when in park or at a light...also seems to hestiate going up hills or from stop to go.should mention the 2.4 dodge carvan does not have a egr system/ this is what i have already done....even if they dont seem related. 1 week ago cleaned throttle body, and fixed a vacume leak. changed spark plugs. 2 weeks ago replaced harmonic balancer and starter 4 weeks ago replaced fuel filiter and iac sensor....adjusted idle three time after fixing iac sensor....the car will purr like a kitten for a day or two and code will dissapear only to come back driving rough and with code popping back up. 6 weeks ago oil change jan-replaced battery aprox 8 months ago replaced thermastat. aprox 1 year ago replaced map sensor also replace tps sensor. july 2010 had a new fuel pump installed before that........cam shaft sensor was replaced. please if anyone has any idears on what i should replace that would be great..we checked for leaks by spraying brake fluid and found one which was replaced. i was told that the iac valve when unplugged should make the engine rev or stall.....this is a new sensor but we did noitice when we unplug it the van stays the same it does not rev higher nor does it stall,,,stays at the same rough wyning idle. thanks for your help
On dodge motors
fitted a lot of parts and still no better
the fault code clears and comes back as a intermittent problem
could be electrical voltage drop off or heat related failure
i wonder if your 02 sensor ,the catalytic converter
or other related sensors
are causing the fault to come back
if needed .....fit a new air filter...
how the test is determined
P1294-TARGET IDLE NOT REACHED 3.3L/3.8L
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P1294-TARGET IDLE NOT REACHED 3.3L/3.8L
When Monitored: With the engine idling and the transmission in drive, if automatic.
There must not be a MAP sensor trouble code or a Throttle Position Sensor trouble code.
Set Condition: The engine idle is not within 200 rpm above or 100 rpm below the target
idle for 40 seconds. One trip fault.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
INTERMITTENT CONDITION
IAC MOTOR PASSAGES
VACUUM LEAKS
AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM
THROTTLE BODY AND THROTTLE LINKAGE

My problem was solved when I repaired my 4 wd activation dash switch. The switch was contacting on 2WD & 4HI at the same time. The front differential activation is vacuum activated possibly creating a tug of war that didn't actually engage it but drained off vacuum from the engine? A theory at best but stumbbled across it because I knew the switch wasn't working properly I repaired it and low and behold rough idle disappeared and all is good for 3 weeks running.

these O2 sensors are cat convertor check sensors. id be checking cat convertors and hopefully you should try replacing if not all ready is the front bank 2, O2 sensor
if you have scanner can you see fuel trims in data display to confirm high fuel trim only on bank 2 either +-5 or more indicates problem and if bank 2 sensor 2 has fixed high 700mv reading cat no good(warm idling)

Before we both knock ourselves out with fuel injector testing. Hook up a Digital voltmeter (DVM) to upstream O2 sensor and lets see how she is burning. Remember positive lead of DVM to signal wire and negative lead to ground. Anything above 550 mV is rich anything below 350mV is lean. Be mindful that an exhaust leak the size of a pin hole in this region can cause a rough idle. A healthy reading should bounce between 550mV and 350 mV.
Next to test is O2 is working block off air in take making mixture rich and see what O2 says about it . Then pull off a vacuum hose (a lean condition) and see if DVM drops to 200to 300mV's.
Keep me posted.

Hi, is it possible the new timing belt was not set tight enough? Seems like your valve timing has slipped.
SOURCE: hi i have 4 cylinder
code P1294 target idle not reached most likely need to replace the idle air control motor. can cause the car to stall or reeve up.
code P0125 engine not reaching operating temperature, most likely you need to replace the thermostat, or possible the coolant temperature sensor.
the coolant temperature could cause the slight loss in power, because if the on-board computer thinks the engine is cold it will keep the fuel rich just like if it were trying to start a cold engine.
but i think you need to replace the fuel filter, that is probably the low power.
