The driver's door, when opening or closing, at the half-way point where it normally has a "hold" position, makes a very loud metallic click, and you can feel resistance at that point. Is there a spring or something that may have moved? How do I access this? Thanks.

Hi,
I think here, by your description, that there might be something that has slipped inside the vent holes from outside. you can try to blow some compressed air through the vent holes at the bottom of the windscreen.
Otherwise you can try to look under the dash, activate the switch and see if you can locate from where the noise is coming and see if you can reach the mechanism that control the vent. Normally it must be moving free. Otherwise your local mechanic should be able to fix that ufor you.
Cheers.

I had the same with my 2 850s. One was the result of the bracket that controls the mechanism that holds the door in two stages of open was cracked. I replaced this bracked by removing the door skin and removing bracket.
The other was a crack in the actual door where this bracket mounts. I removed the door and reinfirced it with some plate welded in and reattached bracket

The hinge has most likely broken loose from the door frame. Look at the main body where the slider bar attaches to the body from the door. It is common for the hinge to break loose. It will need to be spot welded back into place to stop the clicking noise. Usualy two clicks when the door opens and then when it closes.

Hi David, If you take a look at the front of the door where it is hinged, you will see a double flat bar which extends into the door frame. The first thing to do is spray DW40 or anouther type of good lubricant spray into the slot where this fits. Leave the door for a few minutes and then try it to find out if there is an improvement. If you need to get access to the unit inside the door, you will need to remove the door panel. Remove the screws holding the arm rests and then the interior door release handle, then gently un clip the panel by sliding a flat wide blade between the door and the panel and pull gently towards you until you feel the clip release. Lift the panel over the sill and remove it. Remove the plastic sheet from the door and the you can get to the required part. Unfortunetly
