My speedometer and tachometer stopped after battery died and son was
smacking starter with bat?
2003 Dodge Grand Caravan. with 80,000 m iles. Started the van, the gauges = tachometer and speedometer started to spin around. Person turned the car off and could not restart. Made clicking noise like the battery was dead.
Pretty much the same situation- battery terminal cables were corroded, I tried to start engine- clicking noise and slow turning starter but engine started...now, the tachometer and speedometer won't work. I repaced with brand new battery and cleaned battery cable connectors; gages are still not working- checked fuses under the hood- nothing wrong with any of them.Pretty much the same situation- battery terminal cables were corroded, I tried to start engine- clicking noise and slow turning starter but engine started...now, the tachometer and speedometer won't work. Digital Odometer?? Try this procedure and let me know if this worked for you. I have done this several dozen times and it helped reset the Instrument Cluster. 1. With the Key IN the Ignition and in the OFF (not On or Start)Position 2. Push in and hold-in the Trip Odometer Reset button. 3. When "sof 4.0" appears: release the Button and WAIT. 4. There maybe some "E" Codes that may appear. 5. Continue to let the System run its course. There should be a great light show on the dash along with the Tach and Speedometer needles dancing all over the place. 6. In about 30-seconds it will complete it's reset cycle.
Again let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions REPLY in the Comments Section of this Post.
Hold down the black plastic TRIP METER RESET switch for 10 sec and ti will go into diagnostic mode. I did this and its cool. Do it with the van turned off!
sit in the drivers seat close the door. with the key off hold the trip
odometer button in then while holding the button in turn the key on. if
done correctly this will put the MIC (mechanical instrument cluster)
into a self test. if the speedometer does not move like the rest of the
gauges during this test the MIC must be replaced. if the speedometer
does move it is likely your problem will be fixed, however, if the
speedometer does move but it does not start working properly then
further diagnostic will be needed.
With the key in the off posistion press and hold the trip odometer reset button, the lights in the cluster will start to flash and the guages will do a self test. This should take care of your problem.
