Has the car ever been an a collision? if so, check the manual as to whether or not your cars as a kill switch for the fuel pump in the event of an accident.
if it does it should be beneath the glove box and should be checked as a way of running down the issue. even if it was minor it could have started the buggy fuel pump issue your currently experiencing.
If your oil pressure gets to low it can turn off the fuel pump. This may also have saved your engine. The ECM turns on the fuel thru the fuel pump relay for about 5 seconds. When engine is running oil pressure sender supplies the voltage to the pump. When engine shuts off check oil pressure and voltage to fuel pump.
