Has the car ever been an a collision? if so, check the manual as to whether or not your cars as a kill switch for the fuel pump in the event of an accident.
if it does it should be beneath the glove box and should be checked as a way of running down the issue. even if it was minor it could have started the buggy fuel pump issue your currently experiencing.

98 chevy 1500 starts and then shuts right off have replaced fuel pump and filter ,crank sensor, cam sensor ,oil sen. coil, ign.mod and PCM

On some chevys the oil pressure sending unit closes the circuit to continue the fuel pump to run after start. In the event of a wreck ,the car stops running thus no oil pressure thus turns off power to the fuel pump .A safety to help prevent fires. When you first start the car, the computer turns on the fuel pump for about 20 seconds just enough time to start and allow the oil pressure sending unit to close the circuit to allow it to continue running. when the car car has NO oil pressure or the sending unit fails ,it will start then shut down..as many times as you try to start. replace the oil pressure sending unit and secure a good conection. Where is the fel filter located on a 4 dr cavalier..do u have to replace the relay if( because of plugged fuel filter) it shut off to the fuel pump...thanks

The fuel filter is Under vehicle, center, below seating area, front of fuel tank, mounted on chassis.
I haven't had a filter so clogged that it shut off the pump. Relays should re-set themselfs. If changing the filter doesn't clear the problem, then I would start looking at the pump itself.

Have a 96 chevy cavalier. replaced IAC,fuel pump assembly, fuel filter, tested and adjusted TPS but still haveing problem with car shutting off after about 30 mins of driving. Also once "warms" up during...

If your oil pressure gets to low it can turn off the fuel pump. This may also have saved your engine. The ECM turns on the fuel thru the fuel pump relay for about 5 seconds. When engine is running oil pressure sender supplies the voltage to the pump. When engine shuts off check oil pressure and voltage to fuel pump.

03 cavalier starts then dies

Generally when this happens all the time the fuel pump relay has gone bad. Upon starting any GM car up the fuel pump operates off the third wire on the oil pressure switch. When the oil pressure reaches operating pressure which happens in a few seconds the computer shuts off the current from the oil pressure sending unit and opens the circiut flow to the fuel pump relay. The relay will run ythe fuel pump until you shut the engine off. Replace the fuel pump relay and you shall have a good running car again

'99 chevy caviler fires right up, but then dies after started, like out of gas. Fuel relay sensor? fuel filter? fuel pump?

If it is fuel injected it will get enough fuel to start but not stay running. I had the same problem with my S10. Turns out the hose that went on to the end of the fuel pump was roted. pull the sending unit and check the hose connections to the pump and the sending unit. If problem presists replace filter first the pump.
