If its leaking fluid then it needs replacing. If you cannot see fluid dripping from it gently remove the rubber boot on the slave cylinder side as sometimes the rubber will hold the leaking fluid. If their is no fluid leaking then the slave cylinder is ok.

SOURCE: Clutch Pedal not returning 3000GT

Buy a seal kit from autozoe, wil cost you around 17 dollars. Remove clutch aster cylinder by firstly undoing the resevoir clamp and remove the reservoir to give you access to the hard hydraulic line and detach the line. Undo the two bolts holding the master cylinder to the firewall and then go inside the car and pull the cotter pin holding the end of the mastrecylinder plunger to the pedal (watch the washers and remember how they go back on). Remove the unit, and strip it down to replace the plunger and releif valve you get from the kit. Good Luck.

SOURCE: Abnormal clutch pedal operation

You've replaced the master, the slave, now I would check to see if the throwout fork will move by hand. If you can move the fork by hand I would say that your pressure plate and or throwout bearing are worn out. First try to just gravity bleed the system. If that doesnt work, it may be time for a clutch, pressure plate, and bearing. The pressure plate spring pushes the pedal back up and depending on how many miles and driving habit those little arms on it break off and just wear out. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: fork engaging slave cylinder from tranny. (91 3000GT, mitsu)

its called a clutch fork, and you need to pullout the gearbox to replace, its worth keeping the car if its a good car in general, shouldnt be too hard to remove gearbox, maybe a good mechanic can repair the fork in the car....eg;weld it

The clutch hydraulic system has a problem-either the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder on the bell housing may be at fault.

If the brake fluid is low in the clutch master cylinder reservoir, there may be a leak to the outside. Refill and check for leaks while someone pumps the clutch pedal. Check around the clutch master cylinder (also under the dash- if wet there around the top of the clutch pedal or if wet on the carpet below the pedal, the master cylinder is leaking.) Check the single line from the clutch master to the bell housing where the slave cylinder is. If no leaks found, likely the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder has failed internally.

Is it safe: there won't be any further damage caused by running it, but if shifting gets harder and harder to do, that may cause a driveability problem.

some of these were manual clutch cable check adjustment of cable at firewall (bulkhead) and check for cracks around where cable goes through to inside cab common on old girls.

check fluid in clutch master cylinder is it low?
it could have leaking slave cylinder on gear box bell housing or your clutch needs replacing, gear box out and replace clutch as a kit, pressure plate, clutch plate, thrust bearing (comes as kit) but dont forget to check and or replace the spigot bearing in the rear of the crank shaft when doing clutch kit.

Clutch not engaging

Well, it would shift easily with engine off, because the transmission input shaft is not turning. Engine running and clutch engaging good, the input shaft would again be stationary and allow smooth shifting.
What you have to determine is if the clutch disc or pressure plate is bad (a new clutch is needed), or if the pedal hydraulic system has a malfunction. When you push the pedal down, a rod from the top of pedal pushes into the clutch master cylinder bolted to the firewall under the hood. This cylinder has a reservoir filled with brake fluid. When the rod forces fluid from the clutch master down a steel line and into the clutch slave cylinder down on the transmission bell housing, the hydraulic pressure forces a plunger from the slave cylinder to extend and push the clutch fork lever a small amount, enough to force the clutch release bearing (aka throw-out bearing) against the pressure plate. This relieves pressure on the clutch disc and input shaft becomes stationary for easy shifting.

My 1992 Ford F250 pickup when you push in the clutch it doesnt disengage the gears and doesnt shift. Is there a adjustment to tighten up the clutch pedal

Those clutches aren't adjustable at all. Sounds to me like either the Clutch Master Cylinder is bad (or could even need fluid) or the Slave Cylinder is bad. If it needs fluid there's possibly a leak between the 2.

It might simply be your slave cylinder or slave master cylinder that's bad and leaking. They cost a hellofalot less than an entire clutch replacement, that you are about to do. Have those two items checked first.
