A local gas station pump malfunction and pumped alocohol base fuel in our car. We drove about 20 miles before it started skipping and would not go over 3500 rpm's. What is the best way to drain the tank and am I looking at any possible dammage?
Option 1 the easiest way is to jump the fuel pump relay with the fuel feed line at the engine disconnected from the engine and connected to some sort of catch basin (bucket, gas can, etc.) this allows you to use the vehicles fuel pump to drain the fuel. All you have to do is find the fuel pump relay, then jump the positive side (key off) to power to make the fuel pump run, use that to pump all the bad fuel out.
Option 2 is to remove the filler neck and check valve from the tank (a real pain on that car)
Option 3 is to remove and drain the tank... this is the most costly and time consuming option as the alldata labor guide quotes 8 hours labor time.. so i would advise option 1
As for damage to the vehicle/engine that is always possible with a contaminated fuel, my advice would be just to get the bad fuel out as soon as possible, get good gas in it and give it a try.
