The battery light indicates the the battery is'nt being charged by the altenator. This can happen if the fan belts are bad or slipping or even missing. The belt can look good and be bad. A tight belt can still slip if it's worn out. The altenator can be worn out too. If that's all that's wrong with it you can wrap on it with it running and if might take off working again. ( You;ll hear the motor slow a little as the load of the altenator s load pulls the engine). The light will also gto out if it starts chargeing again. If it does start charging you'll still need the replace the alrtenator with a good used or rewbuilt unit as it's on it's last legs if wrapping on it get it to work.. Of course other car repairs like a water pump or fan belts can cause problems too and need to be looked into including making sure the electrical conections are all pluged in and tight. Most auto parts stores can cheak your battery and altanator right in front of the stare and a bad battery can cause all the problems you describe.

Pickup surges acts like its out of gas, stalls when stopping and hesistates when accelerating

2 other common problems to check into is when engine acting up where is the oil gage at? If at low, either oil sensor is shot or the oil screen on your oil pump is clogged, which the latter happens a lot to dodge otherwise easy fix is your idle control motor, cheap as well . located right in back of your carb.

Reduced engine light, replaced throttle position sensor, no stalling

Did you have the battery disconnected when you changed the sensor? You may have shorted the new sensor out if you didn't. Anytime you change any sensor, disconnect battery. Dis you adjust the sensor with the battery disconnected. This has to be done also.

It sounds like your alternator might be starting to go bad and the Battery Light is coming on because it is not charging the battery correctly. Have your Alternator checked with a volt meter, it should be reading 13 to 14 volts if working correctly. If not, replace your alternator.

If you are really really lucky, it is the harness on the side of the transmission. Unplug the harness looking for corrosion. Clean and reassemble.
It could be the TFP Switch, wires connecting TFP to PCM or the PCM is bad
