My 93' corolla's check engine light comes on sporadically. i used the wire method to check what the problem was and i got problem code 42. i cant find anything on this, nor does it actually explain what my car is doing if i do. my car will rev to high rpms and not catch the gear as im driving and i have to take my foot off the gas and try again, which sometimes works. i dont want to drive my car with this problem so help is much appreciated.

I have a 1.6 auto. The speedometer has been acting strange for a little while now, but the light had never come on until recently when my engine started to act this way. It doesn't work until I hit 45mph and then it shoots to 60-65mph and won't go past that no matter how fast I go. I have a 1.6 auto.
