Track light My car jerks forward terribly right when i first take off because the track light comes on saying "trac off" this isn't caused by me turning it off, it just turns on randomly.. hasn't done it in a long time, then i had my tires rotated and it started back up (as I thought it would).. when that light is off it drives normal.. any ideas on how to fix this or what might be causing it?

I had tha same deal with my sunfire..thought it was a bad computer since shift points in trans ans trac is computer controlled. it was a computer problem but there was a wire on tha front side of engine close to tranny that was gounding out every so often as car was being drove which caused computer to get bad signals which caused it to change setting causing rough shifts and jerks and the trac problem. after wire was taped up no more problems

Speed sensor on your wheel you have one for each side ,the car does a check usually when you first take off.could be the connector to it also when mine went out got the big three =trac off, abs, and service light.a diagnostic should tell you which one is the problem, hope this helps

number 4 misfire check either plug or coil --as to jerking if vehicle is not running correct [misfire ]it will not drive smooth trac light --it can be related to the misfire or check abs and brakes and power braking will set off traction control and puts a strain on brakes and c/v axles

My Cavalier is a 2001 and suffers the same problem, the check engine light and trac off lights stay on. When switching from Park to Drive, the transmission jumps and the car jerks forward. Any suggestions...

I can't tell for sure not knowing what the check engine light is on for. When it comes ,on it means the computer has detected a problem with a sensor, or with the emissions coming out the tail pipe. As you described the car lurches forward when put in gear, I would highly suspect the IAT (Intake air temperature) sensor. It is located in the air snorkle, coming from the air filter box to the throttle body. It has only 2 wires going to it, and It is generally caused by bad connections at the sensor, or a broken wire going to the sensor (quite often in the connector body itself). It would be best for you to have the check engine light code scanned. You can usually have this done at a large auto parts retailer for free. They range from P0110 - P0114. If so it is very unlikely to be a faulty IAT sensor, usually wiring related.

The trac light comes on and cannot remove by pushing the button, and the car stalls or acts like it's missing terribly

the trac.control is disabled if the check engine light comes on repair the engine problem and the trac.control should work

The trac off light comes on and car jerks.

check the inlet hose for the air from the air cleaner assembly to the throttle body.there is a sensor mounted on the hose.make sure the sensor is not loose at the base or a poor seal.it can be sealed up with silicone .there may also be a crack in the hose flex part.a vacuum leak in this hose will cause the traction control light to come on and erratic running.when torque is applied, the engine moves, and a leak appears.
this problem fools alot of mechanics into checking the abs and traction systems.

Check Traction Control warning light

I can't give you an explanation for why the car is telling you to check trac. control but i can try to give some help on maybe fixing it. Try - turning on the car, turn the traction control off, turn the car off, turn the car on. Then turn the traction control back on and push the system check button. That should i guess "reset" the trac control system.

Now the noise from the front right of the car is MOST LIKELY the air compressor pumping air into the bags. (i own a 97 Continental but i've never had a problem witht the trac control)

Car 'jerks' while pushing accelerator.

take it to a shop and have them run a diagnostic on it so you know for sure whats wrong whether its the trac control or the transmission

What does trac off light refer to? service engine and trac off light comes on.

Trac is the control that doesnt let your tires spin when they are not making contact with the road. Just by having your emergency brake on will light up the trac light. It also come on with your abs. If you driving on a slick road and you jam on your brakes and the tires slide a little mine will say low track on my car.
