Yesterday our 2002 safari started cold and within 2 miles the tempature went to 250 degrees. We stopped and let it cool for 2 hours, again the temp went up within a mile. I replaced the thermostat but it did not help. hat should I do now? The van has 147000 miles. Thanks!

Could be one of two things, maybe both, either the water pump isn't doing it's job right, or the radiator is clogged. In either case, it should be replaced.

Probably a cooling fan issue or maybe a stuck thermostat.. change thermostat and check that cooling fans engage..good luck...also when you fill up the resorvoir let it be for a while and check to see if level is down, sometimes it takes a while for water to seep into radiator, i assume you dont have a radiator cap?

if your talking about the over head temp reading that is an entirely different system.the temps you show at 178,169,173 are all below what they should be,it should have a 195 degree thermostat in that engine, where did you get those temps,if you got them from the dash you should change the temperature sending unit.

2001 Alero- heat gage does not show heat tempature. Blows warm air.Engine felt cold after a 50 mile trip. Out side tempature 20 degrees fernaheight.

with winter being here you might want to consider having a new thermostat put in to increase the heat in side, but make sure your radiator is full when engine is cold

Serpentine Belt and pulley were replaced. Drove

High moisture with cheap belts would be a start. 2nd possibility is you have a bearing in an accesory drying out. Check water pump pully first with the screwdriver methode. Do not place on a moving part!!!

Air Conditioner stops blowing cold air when vehicle is not moving

plus one on the cooling fan problem. if it was low on charge then as you slow down, condensor temps and line prressures would raise therefore it would cool at low speed and and not when moving since the incoming air would drop system temp, reducing line pressure and then cusing compressor to cycle. the auxillary cooling fans must be on whenever a/c is on, if not, thats your problem. get this taken care of because if you get stuck in traffic, your engine will overheat also if fans are not running
