The A/C in my 2002 ford Taurus SES (about 185,000 miles on it) went out about a month ago. I had the mechanic at the Midas shop in Billings take a super-quick look at my car about 2 weeks ago because there was a funny, fluttery, whirring kind of noise coming from under the hood. He said it was from the A/C being broken and the electronic clutch on the AC condenser wanting to do its job, but couldn't. He said I could wait until spring to fix the AC. The big, serpentine belt broke last Friday (August 12th) and I had it towed to the local Chevrolet dealership (the mechanics that used to work at the Ford dealership went over to Chevrolet after new, cheap owners took over at Ford). The mechanic there said I need to replace the condenser now, because it helps run the belt. Is that true? I don't know which one to believe. Thank you. Mona Whiteman [email protected]

If the compressor bearing seized or fell apart than that would cause the belt to break or fall off. You cannot bypass the a/c compressor with a shorter belt. You can either replace the compressor or get a compressor bypass pulley but then you will not have a/c ever again until you install a compressor.

Why is battery draining ford 2002 Taurus SES

Remove negative cable from battery, connect a test light to negative terminal, opposite end off light to negative battery post. ( let sit for 3 to 5 minutes). Then start pulling fuses, when the light goes out that's your bad circuit. God-Bless! Its worth a try.

My 2004 Taurus SES with less than 56K miles, had a leak of transmission fluid In my garage. I took it to Midas and they couldn't find anything wrong. However, a transmission specialist on site told my...

I'm going to make an assumption that this car has an automatic transmission.

First, a transmission is just like a cup. It only leaks if there's a hole in the bottom. If a little fluid overflowed someplace you can't see and left a little spot once, I wouldn't worry about it. If it continues to do it repeatedly however, I would say forget that Midas and take it to a shop that specializes in transmissions.

It could be as simple as an O-Ring in a fitting that's cracked and needs to be replaced, maybe 1 hour of labor and a 50 cent O-Ring. If it's only leaking when it's parked, it's probably a pan gasket. A 2004 Taurus is just about due for a transmission fluid/filter service anyway, which involves replacing the gasket.

Without seeing it myself, I can only guess though. Take it to a transmission specialist or a Ford dealer that's guaranteed to have a good eye for what's normal and what's not on your car.

OR

If it isn't getting any worse, and you don't mind living with it how it is, just make sure the fluid is at the correct level. Learn the *correct procedure* for checking it from your owner's manual, check it frequently, and keep the fluid right where it's supposed to be. Just do that, and you'll prevent it from getting seriously damaged.

On-board computer not ready for emission inspection 02 ford taurus. replaced battery 1 month ago

This is the biggest flaw in emissions testing. It takes 4 tanks of fuel and 1000 miles of wasteful driving to reset the computer on the FORD TAURUS (I've got a 2000). So much for pollution control!

Oil chandes and oil light

Sounds like you may not have gotten a full amount of oil in the car, or you may have a faulty oil sending unit. Regardless of that though, you most definitely do NOT need to change your oil every month. Do another oil change and make sure the proper amount of oil is put in (the capacity is listed in your owner's manual in the specifications section). Try it out and see if you continue to have this problem. If you do, it's possible that the sensor is bad and is telling you that you have less oil than you really do.
