The rear wheel bearing makes a grinding sound. I have had the inner, outer, and seal replaced like 6 times already. I was just reading that the bearing has to be re-packed and an adjustment procedure be done. Could it be the grease a service station is using that's causing the passenger side rear wheel bearing to make a grinding sound each time? Approx how long should it be after getting the bearing replaced or repacked, which they do anyway when it's being replaced, to get it repacked again? What could cause the rear wheel bearing to make a grinding noise after like 6 months or so each time? The driver side rear wheel bearing, even though I changed it at the same time as the passenger, doesn't make the noise at all.
I'm from the United States, East coast.

the wheel bearings have had to be replaced on my 03 rio , 3 times any suggestions as to why ??
it is actually caused by a bad spindle. this happened to my best friend numerous times also. if the spindle is not replaced when the bearings are it will just keep happening.

Hi, Everytime we first start the car and turn the the heat to defrost the air condtioning light comes on and I have to turn it off manually. This happened before and the manual said something about holding a certain button in for a few seconds and it worked but I lost the manual and don't know what to do now !
The manual instructions are basically:
Turn the fan to 0 (off, far left).
Turn the air control to full defrost (far right).
Press the recirculation button at least 5 times within 3 seconds.
If you've done it right, the recirculation button light will flash a few times at about 1/2 second intervals.
I've tried it on mine and this works.

I have kia rio 2002 The problem is vibration and noise when car `s staying at red light or stop sign
I am at a stop sign or stop light with the car in Drive (automatic trans), a loud vibration sound can be heard and also felt in the steering column and the brake pedal. As soon as I press on the gas pedal again, the vibration goes away. The only other way to reduce the noise is to place the car into Neutral.Spark plugs have been replaced one week ago ,engine mounts ok .Do you have any idea?
i have the same problem. have had 3 mechanics work on it. even the kia dealership. they say they can't fix. new motor mounts, new throttle position sensor, new upper o2 sensor, new plugs and wires, dealership said engine fuel trim was at factory specs, they tried new pre converter pipe, but it did not fix. mounts and pipe are what manufacturer recommends. they thought maybe ac....but i took ac belt off and no difference.....took off crankshaft belt and vibration disappeared, so checked pulleys.....water pump pulley had play....so put in new water pump, timing belt, timing idler pulleys.....still have the problem. how do you check if it is transmission.
My rio kia bought on from uyi technical dealer in benin city, edo state of nigeria only 4 months ago is vibrating with noise while driving. The noise is noticed by other road users even in motion, making a very loud noise or sound that is highly embarrassing. The dealer mechanics have checked more than twice yet no result, instead the hub bearing is observed; tyres are turn over yet the noise persists.
What do think is resolution to the problem? pls help me. Vinson- [email protected]

My Kia Rio will unlock for half a second and then shuts again. I can see a few pots that suggest it's might be a common problem but no solution. Can anyone point me in the right direction of the likley cause and fix
Mikey
Hello,
1, Use fob to unlock and immediately open passenger door. This will give you access to bonnet release switch.
2, Open bonnet and remove 25AMP Door lock fuse
3, Spray WD40 on key- place in drivers door lock and gently try to open and close- do not use force. Half remove key and spray more WD40 into barrell. Keep gently playing until you can lock and unlock using key
4, Replace 25AMP fuse
5, It worked for me- hopefully for you also

where is the knock sensor located on 2003 Kia Rio
2003 kia rio, It is located under the intake manifold. Get underneath the car, pull the oil filter...it is right above it and in clear view with the oil filter out of the way. The connector plug is up top behing the air breather on the firewall.

How do I change the fuel pump on a 2003 KIA Rio? I'm hoping its not an in tank pump. Though I'm sure that's my answer.
Yep, in-tank pump. Luckily you do not have to remove the tank from the car though. Remove the bottom of the backseat and there is a service panel under the seat. Remove that and it will expose the top of the tank and you can just unbolt and disconnect the pump right there. Make sure you pump/syphon as much fuel out of the tank as you can first though and also clean the area around the pump before you remove it to prevent dirt from entering tank. Once you pull the pump out have something ready to cover the hole in the tank while you prep the new pump, to keep dirt out and fumes in.
