Service engine light coming on

Sit in the driver's seat. Put your right hand on your right knee. Put your right hand on the dash/kick plate surrounding the steering column...run your hand down to the bottom of the kick plate. Reach up and under at that point...it's right there. You don't have to remove the kick plate to use the OBD port, but it helps you find it easier.

I do not think the Vitara came out with 1.5l motor, if you have the V6 motor it is a chain driven motor and they are known to be on the noisy side which according to Suzuki is normal until it gets very noisy!!!

2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA ..S/C

AC always leaks freon through the pulley shaft in the compressor.
The best way to hold freon longer, is to use the AC every single month, even in winter, for a few minutes. That helps oil the seals.

If you have not had to replace the freon before, you were just lucky.
It is almost always just the freon.

Not only is the $145 appropriate, but you could have just gotten a can and done it yourself for $20.

And by the way, a whole new compressor is more like $400 plus $100 labor.

My oil light came on

It may simply be the wire is off the pressure sw., the pressure sw. is defective or .......the oil pump is not pumping. It is best to err on the side of safety and get a competent mechanic to confirm what it is because if it is the pump than running the engine will destroy the engine

This could be worn tires or even low tire pressure on one side of the vehicle or possibly a slight front end alignment problem. Check the tires first.

Hello, going to use my 2001 GV as a tow vehicle,

There are two main areas that need attention, aside from lights.
One is you must shield against rocks, you will totally distroy your paint if you do not.
the most important thing is you need to know how the transmission is lubricated, if an automatic. Most lube only when the pump is running and the pump is driven by the torque converter, so you must investigate your specific application. you risk transmission destruction.

You could disconnect the drive shaft(s), but that is not so convenient.

How do I change the dip lights?

Hi D,
The high beam and low are in the same bulb. Open the bonnet, look behind the head lamp unit and remove the dust cover. Disconnect the plug from the bulb and then you'll see a spring clip holding the bulb into position. Release that and remove the bulb. When fitting the new one remember its pre- focused and must fit in only one way....it will have off set fingers so make sure all three sit correctly. Don't touch the glass with your figures as the bulb will blow when its turned on. If you have touched it by mistake clean with spirits before fitting.

When at a stop light

Does not sound like ignition, but fuel.
Idle needs little fuel.
Could be a clogged filter, water in the gas, bad pump, vacuum building up in the tank, bad sensors, etc.
Start with a gauge on the fuel pressure.
If it is low, that will point to filter or pump. Filter is cheaper to try.
If not low, then check the sensors with ohmmeter from Harbor Freight for $3.
There are O2, water temp, MAS, air temp, etc.

Car won't start! Starter

Hello
Lets start with the basics of this electronically controlled fuel injected engine.
You need to scan the engine electronic control computer (called the PCM) with a fault code reader, they are available from any auto parts store for about $40.00
Next check to see if the engine is getting fuel, get a can of starting fluid from any auto parts store, spray it into the air intake to the engine while someone cranks the engine, if it starts and quickly dies out you have a fuel pump problem. Let me know the results
