2003 Mazda MPV Questions & Answers
Cylinders 4, 5 & 6 misfire. Lean bank 2 sensor 1
it is a regular fault
generally it is the Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter
other cause can include engine mechanical fault ( unlikely)---wiring---ignition / fuel system--injectors ---ECT/MAF sensor---ECM
a vacuum problem will affect both banks as will a PCV valve
The HO2S reads the exhaust gas composition and reports to the ECM which then adjusts the air /fuel ration accordingly to keep it within set parameters
The code says bank 2 sensor 1 which is the HO2S sensor so replace it and then have the codes read again
How do I set the timing mark for Mazda MPV 2003?

Misfire but no check engine light mazda mpv
Scanning tells a lot. But if your not getting an engine light. Check vacuum lines first. But if you turn the key on and don't see the light. it blew or someone took it out. Then yes, start with having the codes read.

Code PO660 has come up. How do you fix it
code p 0660 refers to intake manifold tuning valve ,bank 1--circuit open===causes --wiring--intake manifold tuning valve
The fix will be a replace valve
the problem is to find it's location but if you talk with Mazda spares or service department , they should show you where it is located
a workshop manual would be a help as well
2003 ES. What are the probable causes of DTCs P0421 and P0431?
code p 0421 refers to warm up cat converter bank 1--efficiency below threshold ===causes ---cat converter---wiring---HO2S 2
( heated oxygen sensor)
code p 0431 refers to warm up cat conveter bank 2--efficiency below threshold === causes cat converter --- wiring---HO2S 2
as the same HO2S appears in the cause of the fault I would be inclined to change it first
the HO2sS sensor is the one in the exhaust manifold or before the cat converter
and 2 is in the front bank of a V engine
use the special socket when removing/ replacing these sensors as an incorrect tool is the main reason for wire failures on the sensors
Engine starts normal then starts running rough then shuts off, with a squeaking sound
Doesn't sound good Al. Check your engine oil level and make sure it is ok. Could have had a rod bearing seize and fubar the whole engine. Oil puddle under van? Squeaking related but without hearing noise is a tough one. I have heard engines that are on the verge of seizing up to squeak as the bearings seize up and then finally just freeze and seize together. On a lighter note the vans are also prone to having the PCV hose at the back of the intake manifold fall apart and deteriorate. Odd noises have emanated from this sometimes very large vacuum leak that is created. Squeaks, Whistles, etc. If oil was in the hose at time of rupture then oil would have dumped onto the rear exhaust manifold that may have created this smoke from under the hood. You can find more information on this hose at mpvclub. If the engine still cranks over normally but will not start or starts and dies then can rule out the engine damage. The squeaks from this problem are a death call and engine will just not turn over at all.
