my 2000 ford v10 engines hesitates or surges under load. It starts up and runs smooth and goes down a flat road fine with no problems, but as soon as you go up a hill it starts to buck or surge under the added load.It goes away when you push farther down on the accelerator. I had all spark plugs replaced and that didn't help it at all. also had a computer hooked up but no codes.
thanks john

Can you help me with the replacement of my fuel filter on my 2000 Ford Excursion?
1. Best way to relieve fuel pressure? (Start truck, remove fuel pump fuse [how do I identify the correct fuse], then run the truck until it dies??) Open fuel filler door to help dissipate the pressure.
2. Should I buy a removal tool to make the job easier?
3. Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Any websites that discuss this (or show pictures). I've tried Ford Forum but no luck.
I just want to do more of my own routine maintenance and am looking for books, manuals, websites that can help.
Thanks...bk
1.- For identify the right fuse, check your 2000-Ford-Excursion-Owners-Manual position 112, 20AMP (Maxi Fuse); details in the page 138 and next.

2000-2005, Fuel Filter - Removal & Installation
NOTE
A fuel line disconnect tool is needed for this procedure.
CAUTION
Fuel injection systems remain under pressure, even after the
engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved
before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire
and/or personal injury.
Negative battery cable
Fuel lines from the fuel filter. Have a drain pan handy to catch
any residual fuel once the lines are separated.
Safety clip from the male hose
Install and push the fuel line disconnect tool into the female
fitting.
NOTE
Inspect the fuel lines for any damage after the fuel is finished
draining.
Male and female fittings from the filter
Fuel filter from the bracket and the retainer, if equipped. Note
the direction of the flow arrow so the replacement filter can be
installed correctly.
Fig. Typical fuel filter mounting along an under-vehicle frame
rail
To install:
Fuel filter into the mounting bracket with the flow arrow pointing
in the correct direction
Fuel lines to the fuel filter. Align and push the male tube into
the female fitting until a click is heard. Pull on the fitting to ensure
that it is fully engaged, then install the safety clip.
NOTE
When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some
abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module
(PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven
10 miles (16 km) or more to relearn the strategy.
Hope this helped.

how to remove fuel filter on a 2001 f250 v10 gas truck
I just purchased a 1999 F-250 Super Duty with the V-10 engine. It was running rough, so I took a chance on some after-market coils. I bought a set of 10 for just over $75.00 shipped (for all 10 total!!!). They came with new boots, too. They smoothed out the engine just fine and, of course, increased my fuel mileage, too. There ARE reasonably priced parts out there if you shop around.

recently the cruise control stopped working. at first the indicator light would come on but not stay on now it does nothing. Checked the fuse that's not it.
TRY THIS Self-Test Diagnostics - Excursion.
[img src="file:///E:/FORD/ELECTRICAL/Speed%20Control%20Workshop%20Manual_files/SYOusenfileani_caut.gif" border="0"> WARNING: This test is a key on engine off (KOEO) test only that is conducted in park only with emergency brake fully engaged.
IF THE "ON" SWITCH IS NOT DEPRESSED WITHIN FIVE SECONDS AFTER ENTERING THE DIAGNOSTICS MODE, THE MODULE TIMES OUT AND THE PROCEDURE MUST BE STARTED OVER.
The speed control indicator lamp will flash as each switch is depressed. Press each switch in the sequence immediately after the indicator light goes out for the previous switch.
If the lamp does not flash with the last button, and additional flashes occur, follow the chart below for trouble codes:
* 2 Flashes - BPP defective, circuit is defective, brake applied, CPP switch or jumper (if equipped).
* 3 Flashes - Deactivator switch is open or circuit defective.
* 4 Flashes - Vehicle speed signal is out of range or circuit is defective.
NOTE:
I had it replaced by ford dealer free of charge CHECK FACTORY RECALLS USING YOUR VIN if u don't know how send it to me and i will check it for you it is located at the inner side of the driver door frame.

Where is the fuel pump inertia switch on a 2004 excursion?
The fuel shutoff, or Inertia Switch, should be located behind the passenger side front kick panel.
LOOK on the right cowl panel right in front of the door and below the instrument panel. It is simply a button, that you push to reset, and get the fuel pump pumping fuel again.
see illustration.
also follow steps shown here
removing the passenger side front kick panel STEP1
removing the passenger side front kick panel STEP2
Push the switch to reset STEP3

where is fuse for cruise control located in 2003 ford excursion
First off, there is no fuse for the cruise control . The cruise is entirely a function of the PCM.
You might change fuse #12 in the engine compartment .
