Rough idle on 1996 Buick

A couple of very common causes come to mind with the issues you're having.

1. Make sure you have a clean air filter. ( it is more important than ever before because with EFI, ( electronic fuel injection ), systems, the air is as important to the engine as the fuel ) The computer system needs to be able to get a proper fuel/air mix ratio and a dirty air filter prevents that.

2. Something that you may want to check, or have checked is the, ( MAF ), " mass air flow ", sensor. Some of the symptoms are, bad idle, loss of engine's power, stalling, and eventually preventing the engine from starting, especially in cold weather.
This is usually easy to check;
The sensor is usually located in the air intake duct system,( the duct system that the air filter is in )
between the air filter and the engine. Most have a plug with 4 or 5 wires. Very carefully discon-
nect the plug. If the engine doesn't start either remove the battery cables and clean them very
good, or try to jump start the engine. Once the engine is running leave the plug off and go for a
short test drive to see if you notice the engine performing better.
You can drive while this is disconnected, but try not to do that too long. It can cause other
sensors to trigger the, " check engine light ", and over a longer period of time can damage the
catalytic converter.
Some handy people go to a parts store and get, " mass air flow ", cleaner. It does seem to work
well, but you have to follow the instructions very closely.

I hope this helps you.

What causes the brake lights

THOSE LIGHTS ARE ON 2 DIFFERENT CIRCUITS. ONE WHITE WIRE COMING OUT OF THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH GOES TO THE CENTER BRAKE LIGHT. THE OTHER WHITE WIRE GOES FROM THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO & THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH SO THE LIGHTS CAN BE USED AS BRAKE LIGHTS OR TURN LIGHTS. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS GOOD BECAUSE THE CENTER BRAKE LIGHT IS WORKING. IT IS A BAD WIRE { WHITE } FROM THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH OR A BAD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH.

Notice dash lights and headlights

This is very likely an indication that your alternator is starting to fail. Before getting too worried though, I would make sure that the battery terminals are tight. They can loosen over time and cause the same problem.

Car has been running fine.

I just wrote a repair for a guy to replace the passlock sensor, but it doesn't sound that extreme. Your key has a chip in it for the passlock security system, there are 13 different resistences for these chips. Make apsolutely sure the key you had cut, has the same coded resistence (eg. code 2 will turn the cylinder of a code 3 ignition, but will shut down in a few seconds.) If you have a code 2 key make sure you order a code 3 key before you have it cut. All 13 different keys can be cut to be able to turn in the ignition but only the right code will stay running.

I have a 1991 buick

Sounds like a bad heater element switch or heater core. Sound like the heater control switch. On the front side of the heater core you should find a plug. Pull the plug and remove the two screw. The switch should come out. Replace it.

Changed termustate and flushed radiator

If you have a low coolant light, this would be a bad sensor, either at the radiator, or the coolant reservoir. need to replace it. as for the heater, well there are a couple of things to check. first, start the car, and let it warm up. now the engine is at running temperature, now turn on the heater(trust me), and let it run for about 2 minute. feel the 2 lines going to the heater core( they are on the passenger side going to the firewall) is the one coming from the engine getting warm, or hot. If not, there is a valve that allows hot coolant to the heater core. change this valve(they do go bad, or just get stuck), this is an easy fix. If the line is getting warm or hot, the problem will be the heater core, and will need to be replaced. hope this helps and please rate this, helpful to you or not

How frequently should i change

This is very smelly oil so make sure to be prepared with some latex gloves.... You should change this oil ever 50 to 75 thousand miles. To do this you need to turn out the hex plug on the snout of the M90 eaton charger. Take a pump from a lotion bottle that is clean and dip the tube allll the way into the hole(reservoir). Now pump the fluid out into a plastic jar of some sort. There will be aprox. 6 ounces of fluid in the snout housing. Refill with GM supercharger oil only!!

What have you done with the maf sensor?
It is unusual for the ecm to go bad. Check the grounds on the ecm. With that many codes the ground on the ecm could be bad and the sensors are feeding the current to supply the ecm instead of its own ground.
You can get the manual for this car online for free at autozone.com by putting in the vehicle info on the first page. AT any rate the problem is not occuring till the emissions goes closed loop so that is when the codes are being set. The signal to set closed loop is usuall the oxy sensors. Have you changed those?

Why would you want to put a head gasket on one. They hardly ever go bad on a 3800 engine. Worked at a buick dealer for many years and only have seen one that was leaking but it was not original gasket. Tell me the symptoms and I will guide you through it. Super charged motor or not? Please reply
