Passenger side brake is wearing super fast caliper

As strange as it may sound the problem is on the driver's side. That caliper is seized. If you check the pads will be almost new on that side compared to the passenger side. That caliper must be replaced and new pads installed on both sides. However, I've never had much luck changing one caliper, usually within a month or so I have to go back and do the other one. You may want to consider that option, calipers aren't that expensive. Hope this helps.

Air conditioning not working on 1998 oldsmobile achieva

But you need to understand that this may not fix the problem anyways and may have to dig deeper which needs to be done by a qualified tech. If your car is blowing some cool air it is probably just low and will work if you add a little freon.

Serpintine belt installation?

when you lift the hood on your car and look on the panel by your radiator or the cover that covers the top of your radiator is there a diagram that shows the routing of your serpentine belt? Most all cars have this diagram in the place. It shows how the belt is routed. The only other thing you need to know to get the old belt off and another one on is look for a pulley that has spring loaded tension on it that is called a Idler pulley. There should be a square hole in the front of the bracket for this idler pulley that will accept a 3/8 or 1/2 ratchet or breaker bar. Put it in the square hole and then use pressure to push the pulley down so that your belt will easily slip off. If you go to a parts store they will show you how to take it off if you buy the belt from them and can' figure it out.

Brakes lock on ice, snow, rain, and high temperatures

Sounds like your Anti lock brake valve is not functioning right. The bad thing is that it has to be serviced by a technician. When they lock up is there any lights on the dash that light up like something that says anti-lock?

Security light flashing and car won't start now

does it start at all, or does it run for about 1 second and shut off? if the latter, then it's the passlock system, and he could have a defective key or security module. the keys have a predetermined resistance value which activates the passlock system to prevent hotwiring. If it is the passlock system, then sometimes you have to wait 15-20 mins for it to reset before starting the engine.

The car will not start

Hi, if you have a set of spare keys for the car try them as the one you are using may be worn.
This can cause problems with the code reading process with the key to keyswitch.
Failing that there may be a loose wire behind the keyswitch.

I can't start my car and its leaking coolant

Hi, when you say a fast clicking sound, i take it that the engine is not turning over at all.
If so your leak probably is coolant running over the starter & has corroded the starter inside & is not letting it engage.
So first thing I would do is check out the starter by removing it.
Solenoid on it is probably knackered, cheaper to get a good second hand one & fit it to see does the car start.
Then refill your coolant system to see where your leak is.
Also pull out your dipstick to see is the oil grey ! If so forget all above & get an engine with the starter,
As the engine probably may have a blown head gasket & beleve me when roasted once they are as good as scrap as they always overheat quicker second time round.
Plus it will be cheaper in the long run with a good low milage engine than a roasted turkey.

Security problem

Can you please tell me what part was replaced on you ignition system.
If you have changed the ECU or the IGN key switch they need to be fitted in matched pairs as the key switch is match coded to the ECU
Unless you purchase a brand new one that will be blank but must be coded by the dealer or someone with the correct software.

Inside the key is a small chip that tells the ECU it is a match & lets the car start.
The mechanics of most key switchs can be replaced but you must put the chip from your old key into the newly fitted key.
Some cars like Mercedes have the key switch coded & the key so they talk to each other & they must also be coded to the ECU as well.
Nothings ever simple is it.

ETS OFF light always on

Theres a rocker switch labeled "trac control" on the left of the steering column switch it one way to turn traction control on and the other way to turn it off, either way it wont harm anything. GM designed a glorious "Traction Control System", the purpose of which is unknown. What is known however, is that this system has broken on all Achievas known to be in existance. As you will notice if you follow the advice above, activating the system causes any number of problems, many of which are dangerous. Naturally, rather than take any action to fix the problem, GM has tacitly advised dealers to merely turn the switch to off. (The fact that there even is a switch suggests that the system never worked, and indeed was never intended to.) Dealers typically then advice foolish consumers that the light "is meant to be off", which means they think Achieva drivers are among the dumbest people in America.
