When I start my pontiac 2006g6 it starts for a

A starting, running, performance problem needs to be addressed with the basics first. Without knowledge of maintenance history, I would have to say replace the fuel filter and monitor fuel pressure to make sure all is within standard. If that is ok, then look at spark and fuel/timing control and the PCM and related sensors.

While driving my rpm's were going up but my transmission was not changing out

Check trans fluid level. If its good trans may be slipping which means a rebuild or replacement.jasper has good prices on replacements. If not slipping it is most likely a dirty filter or seloinoids in the trans.

Why does the transmission go into neutral when shifting

It's most likely not shifting into neutral, rather it is slipping giving the same engine rev as if it is in neutral, early signs of slipping can indicate a low fluid level in the transmission or mechanical failure in the transmission. Hopefully if the fluid is low just tapping it off could fix the problem and if so if you haven't already or recently had the tranny serviced it should, people tend to neglect servicing the transmission as it's needed, have it flushed and change fluid and filter.
