How to fix fault p0021 and engine failsafe program
(powertrain control module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components but the P0021 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. The "A" camshaft is either the intake, left, or front camshaft. A P0021 engine code is basically the same as a P0011 code, except this is for Bank 2, not Bank 1.

This DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.

Hi Cindy, sorry to hear about your problems., the fault could be any of a number of things. The first thing I would do is check that the timing belt is intact and on the vehicle, this would be the first step. I would not crank the car over to attempt to start it because, if the timing belt has snapped you could be causing damage that is very expensive to fix.
If the timing belt is okay I woild check whether the fuel and the spark happen at the same time in the combustion chamber.The fuel obviously has to be squirted into the engine just before the spark is made to explode it in order to make the engine work. If the fuel does not go in just at the right time and the spark does not explode it at just the right time the car will not run. Either you, or your mechanic needs to establish how this process is going wrong.

Your fault code I think is a cam shaft sensor fault Depending on what engine u got it could be the sensor wiring or the timing is out . If u got a v engine u should have p0011 as well that would prob be timing out hope it has helped

If you are getting this code, make sure you are using the correct OBDII code scanner for your vehicle's make and model. You need someone with a tech 2 or a landrover specific diagnostic unit there are no work rounds that i know of sorry doctor needed.

The Range Rover runs system even when you have locked the car and walked away, you can often here the fan on the computer running from inside the front wheel arch. What can happen is if there is an error caused by a faulty sensor then the computer fails to shot down and instead runs all night until the battery goes flat. Best thing is to get fault codes read and start to try and figure out what exactly is causing it to happen. I would say that this is a common problem but most people don't realise why its happened as they only realise when the car has gone flat.
