i had the exact same problems with my graphire4 pen.
take a tool to remove the tip of the pen. just blow inside the pen, put the tip back and press it in back but not too hard. works like magic!

It sounds like you're running an older Mac based on their legacy PowerPC processors, which aren't compatible with software designed for their newer Intel-based series. The last version of Mac OS X to support the PowerPC line of computers was OS X 10.5.8 Snow Leopard. If you want to be able to open the Wacom application, you'll either need an older version compiled for PowerPC or, more likely, you'll need to purchase a newer Mac, either new or secondhand.

Did you install the drivers before connecting the Bamboo? If not, unplug it and install the drivers, either from a disc or from the Internet: http://www.wacom.com/en-pe/support/bamboo-support That website has a FAQ and a Getting Started guide that might be helpful.
