Need some more information, are you vacuuming dry wall dust or wet dust or saw dust ? The reason I ask is sometime their are "upgrades" available for the newer models of vacs you may not be aware of, when I worked at the Big Box H D tool rental center the vac we rented out used a water filtration set up instead of bags U might wont to check newer model for any changes, like you ,I had Craftsman for over 15 yrs. and when it died the replacement vac had a new mod for the filter that I always thought was needed. Alot depends on the type of hose. There are plastic hoses and rubber hoses. Generally you can use a smaller plastic connector to connect two rubber hoses together and visa versa, Make sure it is a snug fix. You could also use an adhesive to keep it together.
