What is neptune made of
Neptune the planet, is made of ice, rock, gases and liquids. The atmosphere is 85% hydrogen, 13% helium, 2% methane. The methane absorbs red light making the atmosphere appear blue. There are trace amounts of ammonia and water ice in the atmosphere. The core is made of iron,nickle and silicates and is very hot, thousands of degrees, in fact. Beneath the atmosphere is a mantle made of liquid. That liquid is ammonia, methane and water. It is dense. The planet actually radiates twice as much heat as it receives from the sun due to the temperature at its core. Temperature of the atmosphere may be minus 218 degrees C. Thus you have atronomers referring to it as an icy planet.
