Dvd burning problem
i experience to your problem, this your burning a VOB is very fine but it your going to open at the same dvd burner you cannot see the files inside and also if you play that to your dvd-player,.. you know this type of burning speed is the matter, maybe you burn at maximum, keep burning your files at low speed for recognizing its buffer in good result..

Hp 740 lightscribe not working
Does it write data OK but not scribe??
Possibly it's just dusty after years of sitting. Get a foam swab or long q tip and wet with alcohol a little, and clean off the laser lens inside. Carefully. Or use one of those disk-based cleaner thingies.

You need a driver for the soundcard that is in this PC (onboard audio?) Sometimes the setup will think it has the right card, and loads drivers, but it won't work. You need to look at the Motherboard if you have onboard and you should see VIA or some other chip pretty far away from the processor. The most common onboard audio is AC97, but a lot use CMedia and the drivers are not interchangeable. One way to try this is to go into device manager, hardware, and double click in Audio devices and find the soundcard. Right click, select properties, and hit uninstall. Then click scan and see what happens when it puts it back in. Remember to always reboot and you might get some sound. It sounds really lame, but when you put a new driver in a lot of Windows PCs will mute all sound and you have to go to Volume Control to get rid of it. I hope these ideas give you some things to try.

My Verbatim DVD +R DL
It;s possible that you may have left the disc open or re-writable. Check this first.
The settings will be located in the software you used to burn the disc. Easiest would be to start a new burn session and read the available settings throughout the window prompts. It may also be located in advanced settings, if you don't find it this way.

Nec dvd rw nd 3500ag
There are DVD+R discs and DVD-R discs. It looks as though your burner will only write to the "+R" discs. I believe that is your problem. Try the +R discs which can be purchased individually or in 3 packs just to be sure. Good Luck.
I have a _NEC DVD+-RW
It sounds like the DVD write laser isn't firing properly. This is usually a different laser than the read laser.
Have you tried DVD+R vs DVD-R blanks?
