Brightness issue
Hi!
Try not to use anything wet next time, just special tissues with soft chemicals only. And keep laptop switched off while you clean it!
Do following:
- Get notebook to service, or next steps:
- Download service manual from the internet;
- Unscrew two keyboard bolts;
- Push tiny screw driver in those two holes;
- DO NOT DETACH keyboard immediately, just turn it slowly untill you can see wiring;
- check if surfaces on and under the keyboard are clear and dry;
- find keyboard wiring;
- detach it carefully;
- dry the laptop;
- check connection and put small wires back again...
Have fun if it is working.
If not - change the keyboard.
The letter s and D on my laptop act as a volume control function. How do I fix this problem?
Most laptops use a key combination for these kinds of tasks. Things like volume, wifi access, or screen brightness can be modified usually by holding a function key. This key is usually marked with "Fn" and you hold it down while pressing on of the F keys at the top of the keyboard (F1, F2, etc til F12.) to perform the task. Now, some computers have a "function lock" ability. Which basically means you do not have to hold that Fn key to do tasks. Could be that has been enabled. If you provide the laptop make and model we can look into it. =)
How do i change my lenovo latop from chinese to english?
Dear Costmer,
Go to the "Start" menu, then choose "Settings," "Control Panel" and "Regional and Language Options."
Click the "Languages" tab, then the "Details" button, the "Settings" tab and the "Add" button.
Choose an input language from the list. You can choose ANY language. For example, if English (US) is the "input language," check the "Keyboard layout/IME" box to select the US-International English keyboard from the list. Click "OK" and close the input window. A language indicator should appear in the System Tray (the area in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop). Switch between input languages by pressing the "Alt" and "Shift" keys simultaneously.
Click "Apply" to finish the process and finalize your choices. You shouldn't need the Windows installation CD for this process.

Optical drive not recognized
The actual drive is faulty and needs replacing.
The PC cannot get a valid response from the drive when it starts up, so that is why it does not show up.
The registry will show that device used to exist, it is not removed when it fails.
Wireless radio on Lenovo Y510 turned off even
Hi There and Welcome to Fixya!
Another way to turn on the wireless radio on your Lenovo Y510 is to press and hold the "Fn" key, then simultaneously press the "F5" key.
This is an alternative way to switch the wireless antenna on or off without using the physical WIFI switch.
Hope this helps,
Thank you for using FixYa.
