Cleaning uphoustry

Furniture cleaning isn't a science: try out a few techniques before choosing the one that is right for your belongings. This step-by-step guide explains how to clean a sofa:
  1. Before using any upholstery cleaning products, vacuum the sofa or chair first to remove as much surface dirt and dust as possible. Be sure to use the correct attachments to avoid damage to the material - a soft brush attachment is ideal.
  1. Spot Clean. Using baby wipes or vinegar poured onto a strong microfiber cloth, apply to any obvious stains, wiping gently as you go. Remember to test the upholstery cleaning products on an inconspicuous area first.
  1. Overall Clean. Using soapy water and a microfibre cloth, gently wipe your sofa with the solution, allowing it to soak into the fabric and tackle the dirt beneath the surface. You only want to use a very small amount of water - don't saturate the material.
  1. Dry. Some people use a hairdryer to quickly dry a sofa, but allowing it to dry naturally is always the better option, if you have the time. To speed things up, open windows and allow the breeze to help with the drying process.

Red float keeps popping up

You need to clean the debris channel. Put the machine on a waist high flat surface open it and remove the dirty water container. You will see three vertical screws which lock the scroll above the motor to the clear plastic panel at the front of the machine. Open these screws and remember which one belongs where. To the left of the scroll, there is a black horizontal screw which should also be removed. If you look closely, you will see the right hand of the first three screws (brushes face to your right hand) has also released the plexiglass (clear plastic screen where you see the dirt and soap flowing at the left side. Now put the machine on its side and look at the front edge of the plexiglass just ahead of the brushes. There are two screws which have to be removed - one on each side and bingo the plexiglass shape lifts clear. Clean out the muck, check the scroll channel for similar muck and reassemble.

The muck is plugging the dirt path and fooling the red float that the tank is full.

Re assemble the reverse of the disassembly procedure. Do not use a power screwdriver as you will likely shear the screw heads.

Good luck,

Hoover carpet cleaner fh50230 stopped sucking water up from carpet

Assuming the motor and blower (that creates the suction) are working the most likely reason is a loose cover (lid) on the recovery tank. Also, check the seam where the lid meets the tank and clean any debris that might prevent a good seal. Be sure the small, black gasket in the lid is intact with no tears or gaps.

Hoover floormate not picking up water

Reduction or loss of suction power could be caused by several things, including a blockage in the water channel, the water channel hose, recovery hose (located behind the recovery water tank), deteriorating rubber seals, dirty/clogged filter, dirty louver cover (exhaust for the vacuum above the tank).

The bottom filter under the canister keeps popping

Hello,

This is a pretty clear indication that your filter is clogged and needs to be replaced. HEPA filters are different then say pre-motor filters, or sponge filters. Because they are usually the last filter before the air is exhausted, it's usually catching very tiny microscopic particles. Because of this, trying to determine if the filter is dirty or clogged can be difficult, if not impossible on HEPA pleated exhaust filters.

The fact that your filters continues popping out, indicates that the air is not being able to pass through the filter as it's supposed to, and is instead the air is having to try and find a different way to escape, causing the force of the back up of air to blow the filter out.

I think if you replace this filter, it should fix the problem completely. Because this filter is designed to capture microscopic particles rather then large particles, washing this filter, or getting it wet is not advised, and wouldn't be an effective way to clean it. You really will need to replace the filter soon, but if you'd like to try and prolong the life of your filter, you may use an air compressor, and blow from the top of the filter (the area that looks clean), and clear the microscopic particles, and dust out of the filter this way. If you suffer from breathing issues, asthma, or allergies, I would highly advise against doing this without a mask on. The dust that will come out is extremely fine dust that can cause people with the above conditions to suffer greatly. Doing this outdoors is highly recommended.

An air compressor can certainly prolong the life of HEPA filters, but again, sooner or later you'll need to replace the filter.

If you're in need of buying one of these filters, you're in luck! We carry these filtes on our site, and they are in stock. Here's a link back to the filter on our site if you need to order one. Hoover power scrub brushes want spin

If you can hear the motor running it probably needs a new drive belt and if the motor isn't running there is an electrical fault that must be checked by a suitably experienced person. Some of the older power scrubbers/polishers I have seen didn't have a belt but used a simple but substantial gear drive system that gave no trouble in my experience.
