Either the carbon brushes on the motor need replacing or the thermal cut out is activating. That might be because it is faulty or because there is not enough airflow over the motor. Overheating motor causing an automatic shutoff. This is most commonly caused by an air passage that is plugged by hair or dirt.

This is a little joke that Hoover has played, and for some reason no one else has explained it. (One answer hints at it, but doesn't explain at all.) The height adjuster does NOT operate when the vacuum is in the upright & locked position. The tabs for the adjuster won't go into the holes above them until the vacuum is unlocked and at a slight angle. You can just install the height adjuster wheel assembly in the locked position, replace the lower cover, and voila! you will be able to adjust the height with the vacuum angled as it is for use. That's an hour of my life I won't get back!

It's plastic with chrome paint, not metal. Take it to a vac repair shop and have them fix it. You may break the tabs if you force it.

When your Hoover spin scrub is not sucking up water, the most common problem is the clear round cap located on the suction nozzle is not closed. See pic. Also check the rubber cap on the dirty water tank.

The only people that will know is Hoover. There are no clues in there. It could be 3 month of 2002, but anyone's guess. Phone them up.

The handle pedal is snapped in to the base, where it pivots.
The pedal needs to be pried away fron the base, exposing the pivot pin to release it for removal. On your model, you will likelly have to remove the lower handle from the base (where it pivots) to get room to release and replace the pedal.

Depending on the model and the country, the standard fuse is in the plug or it is the breaker. They do have an internal thermal fuse to protect against severe overheating. You should not try this on your own. Take it to an authorized Hoover warranty repair center near you. This is not an easy job and is usually not worth the expense if the machine is out of warranty anyway. If it's within the warranty period, warranty will cover it. My shop is a Hoover warranty center and we have replaced a lot of these.
