Make sure the electricity is connected. Check the start capacitor - check for the compressor running.

Have you tested the wall socket for power, do that first.

They are usually for extra ddehumidification based on the area you live in. If your freezer is working correctly, I would just leave them where they are at

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

Start Relay/Overload or Compressor is bad. A bad compressor can make a Start Relay/Overload go bad but the only way to find out if compressor or Start Relay/Overload is bad is to replace the Start Relay/Overload if it starts and stays running you fixed it if Prob. returns in a week or so or if you have the same Prob. after replacing the relay the compressor is bad.

Truly... if it is an indicator that is not working you be buckets of money ahead to get a $7 freezer thermometer and work from there but alas... I suspect you are encountering deeper issues. Looking at "Appliance PARTS PROS"... Your model number (FUM21SVRWW) is not resolving to a good number (looks valid when I insert an A, B, C or D between the "V" and the "R"). I think the sensor and controller are combined into a single control. Always get three decent estimates... (SEARS PARTS = $$$$) shows your part as WR09X10063... but personally... I would talk to EVERYBODY else first.... I'm just saying...!!! Appliance Parts was offering "try their part" return policy... which is wonderfully attractive to us amateurs. Trust but verify. Unplug it and see if it resets after you wait 5 minutes and plug it back in. If the outage was caused by a surge, it may have damaged the control board.

Goto Sears parts online. And plug in your model number. They have a lot of Manuels.
