I'm looking at you part... it shows a SPRING that is completely consistent with re-installing it as you describe (simple push in (unless you fubar'd it yanking it out... Hello Laura Crupi, Not finding Dacor parts in the usual places (pretty appliance though)... it looks to be called a "butterfly" element. I will post a VIDEO that shows how to test it for continuity... I HAVE not found anything that shows if it wires or PLUGS IN... so I will say now... If you disconnect any wire... for any reason... MAKE SURE YOU PUT AN ALIGATOR CLIP on it before letting go... One of the biggest known OVEN REPAIR issues: LOOSE WIRES retreat back inside the OVEN SHELL... THEN the ENTIRE OVEN has to be taken apart to fish that wire back trough the right hole... Just don't let ANY WIRES get loose. Alligator clips... hemostats.. & Bell System 419A test clips can all save an entire afternoon of grief. (((seriously))). RKLentz11, TYPICALLY for safety reasons... Hot surface ignitions will only attempt to light a FEW times and then locks out... As you already know these things have EXPLOSIVE CAPABILITIES... TECHNICALLY you can USUALLY reset the gas flow by cutting the power and restoring power... IT IS AN EXTREMELY UNWISE thing to do without placing a NEW... WORKING hot surface igniter... The hot surface should be GLOWING before the gas starts... Do yourself a favor and forget about touching it to see if it is warm... even BROKEN it has line current flowing to it and EVERYTHING around it is grounded... ((read PAINFUL at best)). I see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the controller assembly, which I regularly repair. Details are here. This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller. The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. It may be a shorting relay on the the control board, or a problem with one of the door switches or its mount. I regularly repair these microwave controllers and details are here.
