Check your guitar with another amp, or a different guitar with this one with no effects pedals, etc, to narrow it down to just the amp. At that point, try reversing the polarity. If none of the above helps, you may indeed have a bad ground somewhere and you'll need a tech to follow it to the source.

I also have this issue. Same crate combo amp. There is a loud buzz emitted only when there is a cable plugged in. Cables and instruments checked good, only possible issue is inside the input of the amp. Popped it open, solders and connections were intact and appeared solid. Anyone have a guess as to why this is happening?

That is probably a momentary switch that is dirty and sticking. These onboard effects on guitar amps are usually nothing more than a computer sound card and I've found bad connections going to and from them as well. I do think that switch is dirty and sticking, though.

On some amps there needs to be a footswitch inserted in the control jack to activate the effects circuit. Contact Crate to see if that's the case with your amp. http://www.crateamps.com/support/index.php

Reverb spring end broke. you can bend a new loop with pliers. There is a post sticking up in side the metal case that hooks around the end(s)

Clean the volume and tone pots with de-oxit cleaner

remove top screws by handle.

Try with a on/off footswitch Wrong cable, or bad PCB connection switch on main tone board.

Power supply capacitors failed. This is a common problem with 1990's crates, also the power on "POP".
