Both suggestions (advice) were wrong. It needed a hard start kit.

First check the basics.Inspect both freezer and fridge door. Are both getting properly closed.Or any of the door is not getting completely closed.----------- But if both doors are getting properly closed, then this problem relates to faulty/ weak compressor.---------

The compressor is weak. The compressor needs to be replaced.-------------- The working procedure of your refrigerator unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.------------ But as you mentioned that food freezer is defrosting, this indicates that freezer not cooling properly, this indicates problem with compressor. When compressor cools the freezer section then fridge section gets cold.If freezer section is not getting properly cold then fridge section will not cool properly/.So the problem relates to compressor.---------- In the compressor there is a refrigerant called FREON.With the help of this Freon the compressor cools the freezer section.Freon is a gaseous type cooling agent. The compressor will stop cooling when coolant gets leaked from its chamber.--------- Again recharging the Freon is possible, but the cost for that recharging is approx the cost of new compressor. So its always advisable to get compressor replaced.Because new compressor has warranty for few years.------------------ You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- -----------

But before going for compressor replacing.Try this reset procedure and see, if that helps:---

The manual defrost reset procedure is as follows : ----
First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. Then check, it will take approx 4 hours to regain/ run its cooling cycle. If you still get same problem, then its compressor problem. It has to be replaced.-----------

This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Our 10 year old samsung rfg298aapn refrigerator freezer started not fully freezing all the time. mainly things like ice cream/popsicles getting soft.

I have never owned a fridge freezer so have no experience to draw on apart from a sketchy knowledge of the principles involved.

I just wanted to mention that food remaining frozen at -2 C or even -6 C doesn't mean the food will remain safe to eat indefinitely, in fact the safe life of food at those temperatures will be about the same as in the freezer compartment of the old fashioned fridge - a matter of a few weeks to a couple of months.

The safe and almost indefinite storage of freezer food requires temperature of -25/-27 C

I suggest you obtain service for your fridge freezer...

Upright frigidaire freezer light flashing 6 degrees pressed super freeze will it reset??? How do I know if super freeze button working??

Check along the back and sides of the freezer for any vent-like openings that are covered or blocked by packages. There may be a sensor that's not getting air flow as it should. Although most upright freezers are now frost free, there still can be ice buildup in critical areas such as the thermal sensor or the fan. Can you tell if the fan is running?

Even if the compressor has failed, your frozen items will keep the temp down for several days. I suggest you move the frozen goods to a neighbor immediately. Meat or fish in particular quickly becomes unsafe to eat without at least refrigeration.

Freezer not defosting

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Electrolux freezer, model# EW23CS65GS, is not defrosting and causing your freezer temperatures to raise as well as not produce ice. I suggest putting your freezer into a manual defrost cycle. You can do this by pressing and holding down the, refrigerator temperature up and down arrows simultaneously for 5-10 seconds. You will see a "D" appear on the freezer side display and an "F" on the refrigerator side. Let this run for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes press and hold the refrigerator up and down arrows again. If you do not notice any change, try resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at the circuit break, for 3-5 minutes. Once power is restored, give your refrigerator 24 hours to run through its normal cycles. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your washer status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

Why is my frigidaire frig with code H and 1 flashing on model ffhs2611Lwf?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FFHS2611LWF, is flashing an "H1" code. This is actually stating "HI", as in either the refrigerator or freezer, temperatures are Hi and not at a safe level. First, press any button to stop the alarm and clear the HI temperature. If you are still receiving the alarm, I suggest checking the freezer, to make sure that everything is still frozen, and nothing is defrosting as, well as checking the refrigerator temperatures. If things are defrosting or the temperature is Hi in your refrigerator, I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your homes circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. When power is restored, Give your freezer 24 hours to stabilize at the default temperatures of 0 degrees for the freezer and 37 degrees for the refrigerator. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your refrigerator status has changed successfully.

I need to learn how to control the tempature setting

Hello,

The temperature controls are located at the top front of the refrigerator or freezer compartments.
The recommended setting should be correct for normal household refrigerator use. The controls are correctly set when milk or juice is as cold as you like and when ice cream is firm.
Wait 24 hours for your refrigerator to completely cool before adding food. If you add food before the refrigerator has completely cooled, your food may spoil.
NOTE: Adjusting the refrigerator and freezer temperature controls to a colder-than-recommended setting will not cool the compartments any faster.
If the temperature is too warm or too cold in the refrigerator or freezer, first check the air vents to be sure they are not blocked before adjusting the controls.
To turn Off/On:
Style 1 Press the freezer down arrow touch pad until a dash (-) appears in both the refrigerator and freezer displays. Neither compartment will cool.
Style 2 Turn the freezer control to the word Off. Neither compartment will cool when the freezer is set to Off.

Energy Saver option (on some models)
The Energy Saver option turns off the heater which helps to reduce moisture on the door hinge seal. The refrigerator uses more energy when Energy Saver is off.
Press the control to On to save energy when the environment is less humid.
Press the control to Off when the environment is warm and more humid, or if you notice moisture on the door hinge seal.

Adjusting controls
If you need to adjust the temperature in either the refrigerator or freezer compartment.
NOTES:
For Style 1 control, press the up and down arrow touch pads; for Style 2 controls, turn the dial to adjust the temperature.
Except when starting the refrigerator, do not adjust either control more than one setting at a time.
Wait 24 hours between adjustments for the temperature to stabilize.

Hope this guideline will helpout.....

Mr.

When the heater comes on for defrost behind the rear freezer panel , it gets red hot . The defrost thermostat ( bimetal ) , cuts the heater off , when it reaches 140 degrees for new (2000 - 2009 ) and 55 degrees for older refrigs . When this temp is reached at the top of the coils , the lower portion will be hotter due to being closer to the heater . The frozen food in the freezer , is what keeps the temp down in front of the rear freezer panel . No food in freezer , the hotter the freezer section will be .

Does outside temperature affect performance of freezer

Top mount refrigerator installed in a garage and the food in the freezer is defrosting when
the temperature in the garage goes below 55 degrees fahrenheit.
On top mount refrigerators you cycle the compressor and fan/fans from the food
compartment temperature. When the room temperature gets colder than 55 F, you have
long off times waiting for the food compartment to warm enough to trip the cold control.
This long off time is allowing the freezer temperature to get high enough that food can start
to defrost.
There is a kit for refrigerators installed in applications where the temperature can go as low
as 34 F and still maintain good freezer temperatures. The kit part number is 5303918301
and it contains a heater that mounts in the control box and an instruction sheet advising
how to install the heater.
Kit 5303918301 contains:
Part # 5303950194 Instruction sheet
Part # 241532101 Heater

Not cooling but everything seems to be on

remove back panel inside freezer and evaporator pipework will be exposed.
if this is heavily iced up, airflow will be impeded and hence rise in temperature
disconnect from mains and melt ice off carefully with a hairdryer then switch back on
you probably have a fault with the defrost system if this is the case - get back to me
