There could be something in the paper feeder that's blocking the paper path. Please follow steps below to identify and fix the problem:

1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.

2. Grab a flashlight and look inside for any debris.

3. If you're willing and physically able, you may also turn the printer over. Any debris should just freely roll out from the feeder.

4. If feeder is clear, place the printer back on the table, open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.

5. Check the cartridge area for any obstructions/debris that could cause this error or problem.

6. If cartridge area is clear, close the cover.

7. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power outlet to reset it.

8. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and load some paper. Try to print again.

I have a lexmark x85 printer that is misbehaving. Weather I try to copy or print from the computer,t will not feed properly. The unit feeds about half way and then the printer heads start to move as if it...

You simply need to find a way to clean the inside of the printer, especially the rollers of dust. I will explain.

This is sort of scenario is usually caused by dust inside the printer. Dust has a way of preventing the sensors from detecting paper. Also it prevents the rollers from having a firm grip on the paper while picking paper. Sometime one side grips well and tries to pick the paper while the other doesn't resulting in a jammed. I will suggest you get a long handle brush and try to reach as far inside the printer as possible and brush (from the back and front). If you have a blower you may also use it to blow well into the interior of the printer (If you do not have a blower the brushing will still do if you do it well.) This, if properly done should do it. Brush especially the rollers etc.

When trying to print the paper won't feed through. It will on the left side (looking at the front of the printer) but won't on the right preventing it to print. I just bought and replaced both...

Lexmark printer x85 all in one

It needs a thorough cleaning inside, and a lube job as all of the lubrication has dried up. Call around but this type of a maintenance is usually about $25.00. J.

Lexmark x85 paper jams

I have owned several X73, X83, and X85 printers. Most of them end their life in the way that you are describing your problem. They will start by feeding the paper thru the primary load but will not feed the paper thru to be printed on and out the paper exit.

First and foremost, I advise you to unplug the printer, remove the flip top cover and turn the printer upside down and shake. I have seen items in the paper path such as a penny cause issues like this. Also make sure the paper path is clean and no small tears of paper in the way that could be blocking. If you find something check again, hopefully this is the good solution.

If that does not work, it is most likely that you need the print engine for the unit. Unfortunately this costs about $109 if you can find them (unless they got cheaper since I last checked).

If it makes you feel any better I have one that matches your's on the shelf here :) You can get a new AIO printer for $109 or just a little more.

Under file menu find page setup. Check the margin settings. Compare them to the ones that are in the printer properties. If they are different the jumbled characters are caused by conflicting settings. Try returning to defaults. If this does not solve the problem, check to see what fonts you are using. A page written in a font not supported by your computer will usually display with small boxes or crazy looking characters.

Try cleaning the feed rollers. these are the rubber wheels that actually contact the paper and pull it through. If they get dirty, their grip on the paper will be less than adequate. Just use some clean water, or perhaps some rubbing alcohol, and a clean rag to wipe them thoroughly.

Paper will not feed into printer

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.
