The ice maker in my Whirlpool Gold refrigerator has stopped making ice. There is ice in the tray, but it won't empty itself.

If the " tray " you are refering to , is the ice maker mold , then clean the coils in the front , under the refrig ( condensor coils ) . Also check the fan behind the refrig , to make sure it is working . An ice maker has to be 5 degrees to cycle . Bothe the coils and the fan , have to be checked to be sure the freezer is at the correct temp for the ice maker to opperate properly . If both are ok , then replace the ice maker .

Burning smell behind refregratot. After fan trggered there is burning smell like rubber burning.

First , clean the coils under the front of the refrig , with a vac . Then pull the refrig out and remove the back panel and check that the fan there in working . If not , remove any obstruction or replace the motor ( pt # 4387244 ) . If the fan IS working , then replace the overload/relay , which is plugged onto the side of the compressor ( pt # 8201786 (comes with instructions )) . Both are easily replaceable and will save you hundreds in repair costs . Note : Dirty condensor coils ( bottom front ) can cause the overload/relay to go out .

My refrigerator and freezer working fine, but the door jam between freezer and frig gets very hot can anyone tell me why ?

Either the fan which cools the coils and compressor , behind the rear panel behind the refrig , is not working ( or something is caught in the fan blade ) , or , the coils under the refrig need cleaning badly .

Icemaker has ice in icemaker, but does not drop it and refill to make new ice. What do I do?

Check the coils under the refrig , to make sure they are clean . If not clean , then please clean , and wait about a day . If still no ice , replace the ice maker . An ice maker will not harvest ( dump ) , unless it is 5 degrees . Dirty coils will make a freezer temp anywhere from 10 - 18 degrees , yet food will still be frozen , but ice maker will not work .

The panel between the freezer and refrigerator heats up - too hot to touch for a while then cools off again. GD5SHAXLT01

You need to clean the coils under the front of the refrig of dust , lint , pet hair , etc . Pull the refrig out and remove the back panel covering the compressor . Make sure the fan there , next to the compressor is working . Usually , if this fan is not working , the center strip gets very hot , and the compressor may cut off , from getting too hot . The compressor can burn out , if the fan doesn't work for a while .

Ice maker works slow

Usually , slow ice production , is caused by dirty condensor coils ( the coils under the front of the refrig , behind the kick plate ) . Only vacuum what you can see , no need to pull refrig out and all that . It does need to be 3 " from the wall though .

Side by Side refrig. ice maker has water in tray but does not dispense ice.

Check to see if the coils under refridge are clean . If they are , replace the icemaker . An icemaker has to be 5 degrees to dump the cubes . Dirty coils can raise the temperature to 6 or even higher , therfore the icemaker will make ice , but not dump them .

Freezer compartment has frost buildup

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.
