Noisy whirlpool condensor fan motor

The condensor fan motor went out on our two year old whirlpool side by side refrigerator ED5PHEXRB00. The repair man had to order a new one but said that whirlpool was going back to an old model fan, installed it and now it is very loud. Is there anything I can do to quiet it and is he right about whirlpool going back to an older fan motor model. Thanks

These motors with the plastic fan are apparently failing so often that when I went to the parts store, the owner told me on guy bought 4 replacement motors for his condo complex. Buy the old version of the motor with a metal fan blade. You have to clip off the white connector on the wiring harness and then wire to the new motor using wire nuts (easy). It's a lot cheaper too - $49 for the motor and blade vs alost $100 for the crappy plastic one. Running llike a champ right now!

Compressor starts, then stops

Hi the freezer and fridge insides warmed up a bunch. I unplugged it for a few days. Now, when plugged in, its clicks, the compressor starts, but then stops a few second later. About 30 sec to a minute later it repeats that on/off behavior. Thank you for any assistance.

Hi, this problem will be with either the starter for the compressor or could actually be the compresser itself. Both of these can be replaced but it is not something any one should do unless they have done this before and know what they are doing.

Whirlpool fridge walls cracking inside

The walls of my 2 1/2 year old fridge are beginning to crack. This must be a defect in material. I called Whirlpool and was told that I would have to pay to have someone look at it. My last fridge was Whirlpool and never had one problem in 21 years. This one already has had a broken ice maker and the temp is not consistent. Don't I have any recourse here? What happens when the cracks get bigger?

Side by Side Whirlpool Refrigerator: Refrigerator is freezing food

We have Whirlpool Model No. ED25PEXHW00 and it has recently started freezing everything in the refrigerator side. We have tried adjusting both the controls in the refrigerator and freezer side and nothing has worked. We have also tried unpluging it for a while and that didn't work either. Is there something that we can try before we have to call out a technician?

Hi, riverbyfarm
You did try what i would of recommended first!
The resetting of the system by, turning off the controls of the freezer and the fridge first and then unplugging it or if you can't reach the plug, to throw the breaker off for 5 minutes!
That is a possibility in the order that I described!!!!!

Second I ask, is the freezer packed full to the hilt with packages?
In some refrigerators if the frozen food covers the air vents in the freezer cause they are plied sky high and deep in the freezer it can cause a problem.
The freezer and fridge share the air and have to have the vents or passages free so to allow sharing of the cold air!
Let me know if the measures as I prescribed have an affect.

Waiting for your reply!
Bless You Huuum

Whirlpool Refrigerator Internal Liner Cracks

In July 2006, I purchased a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator Model GF6NFEXRQ from Howards. A few months ago, I noticed the interior cabinet was cracking. I thought, whew, because I had bought the Extended Warranty.
My wife just recently called for service under the warranty. The quantity and length of liner cracks is observed to be increasing. The service tech came out and proceeded to tell my wife that this happens with some Whirlpool refrigerators due to liner shrinkage, and that this is only cosmetic. He gave my wife the option of either having silicone smeared over the cracks to seal them, or covering the cracks with tape. She told him that she'd "have to discuss it with her husband", knowing full well what my response was going to be.

I would say it is clear to anybody and everybody that this is a design and/or materials defect, not just a cosmetic issue for a refrigerator 2.5 years old. I am not inclined to have sealants smeared on the walls of the refrigerator, with exposure to food and drink products, that are subject to human consumption.

I have called and spoke with both Howards and Whirlpool. The party line from both has been that the cracks (several) are just cosmetic, and has no impact on function. Apparently, as long as the refrigerator functions, that's all they mean under their warranty. I disagree with that assertion.

They could not or would not answer for me my question on: "Just how much sealant and tape covering the inside of the refrigerator would be acceptable".

Regardless, with the potential for mold, bacteria growth, and degraded cleaning capability, I will not permit the glue and tape "fix" in my refrigerator, that both Howards and Whirlpool have presented me with. That is not a "fix" I deem appropriate for an item under warranty. I still have years left on the Extended Warranty I purchased, so this issue is hardly closed.

They should display refrigerator models on their showroom floors with liner cracks, and further with the glue and tape "fixes", so their customers know what to expect.

If it is a Kitchenaid brand, the liner is covered under full factory warranty for up to 5 years. (See your warranty guide page). I am the Svc Mgr of an Authorized service center and relayed to one of my customers this morning, that if they took photos after the repair was made and call customer service, they will tell you where to send them. If...and they will agree the repair is un-sightly, you get an exchange. I am not sure it will work with the Whirlpool brand even though they are in the same family ** all made by same company, Kitchenaid cost more and comes with a longer warranty.... hope this helps. You need to replace the electrical control board. It's an easy fix. About $75 for the part. No electrical work necessary. Just unclipping and re-clipping wires into their ports. You do not need a repairman to do this! (I'm a 33 yr. old female, so please forgive my lack of technical terms in the post) I ordered one from AppliancePartsPros.com. It came in two days.

1. Pull out and UNPLUG the fridge.
2. Take out the screws that hold the bottom back panel on
(The electrical contol panel is located inside a white box attached to the lower left corner. )
3. Remove the screws that hold the box in place
5. Remove the bunch of wires out of the clip on the side of the box and pull the box out. Open it by releasing the clips on either side.
6. Disconnect the three sections of wires that plug into the board
7. Remove old board out of the housing
8. Insert new board,
9. Reverse above steps to complete installation.

Note: What triggers the buzzing sound is the door being opened. If you want to stop the sound and prevent the electrical current from going to the fried board until your new one comes, put a piece of tape tightly over the switch that pops out when the door is opened (located inside the unit near the door hinge).

whirlpool refrigerator trips gfci outlet

My whirlpool refrigerator just recently lost power.  I checked the power outlet and noticed the gfci outlet had been tripped.  i reset the outlet and plug it back in.  It ran fine for about an hour then lost power again.  The gfci outlet had turned off once again.  I ran an extension cord tried plugging it into a different gfci outlet and it ran fine for about 2 hours and then tripped that outlet as well.  I now have it plugged into a regular outlet via the extension cord and it appears to be working fine.  Is this safe?  Should I just change the gfci outlet behind the refrigerator into a standard outlet?  Why would this start happening all of a sudden?
This is a fairly new refrigerator, about 5-6 years old and I have never had problems before.

Yes ,, if the fridge outlet is behind the fridge and therefore not accessible for use by counter top appliances .. then yes change it to a regular outlet.
The cause is probably the compressor, getting a bit noisy..electrical noise I mean.

Good day,
A slow continues drip, but still dispenses O.K. is caused by the dual water valve on the bottom rear of the machine not closing completely.
Only fix is replacing the water valve assembly.

Refrigerator making noise like ball bouncing

My refrigerator makes a noise periodically that sounds like a ping pong ball bouncing 3 times. It seems to happen when the motor stops after it has been running to cool it down. This has been going on for some time and the unit works fine otherwise. Should I be concerned?

No. This is not a great deal. Your compressor is switching off at times which makes the sound, but it is a power saving technique adopted by the manufacturer. It is certainly not a problem.
