Hi, for my 250 gb external harddisk Power is not coming & ive taken to local shop he told me that circuit was burned. its a seagate inside a zippys casing. i want my data, do u think is it possible to get data from that? if so , wat wil be the cost Thanks Satish.M

Depends if the drive is bad or if the case circuits are the problem. If it's just the case you can put the drive in another computer, or purchase a transfer cable to plug into any USB port and transfer your own files off that way. Other wise if the drive it's self is bad you will have to find someone that is able to replace the circuits on the drive, or how ever they make them work again. Hope this helps, if you have more questions or need clarification just reply to your post.

Dismantle the case, take out the hard disk, put it in a desktop and access it directly from Computer. If even that fails then the data is lost for good.

Hi guys, my seagate barracuda 7200.8 300 gb hard disk notworking. power is not coming to external harddisk, so i open the case connect it to lap by using some wires(dont know given by my friend), stil...

I have the same problem like yours right now. The on-board circuit of my Seagate Barracuda burned and I'm planning to buy new Seagate Barracuda with the same specifications, same model.. I will try to disassemble the circuit of the new one and connect it to the old hard drive to take a chance if it will work and retrieve my files. If it doesnt work, at least I try and I still have a new hard dist to store my new files.. If you want to do the same, you must be careful in handling the circuit board. It is very sensitive and can be damaged with just touching the components.. I recommend you to discharge static electricity of your hands by touching anything that is made of steel.. The steel will discharge static electricity, but still, to make sure you wont damage the circuit, just touch the circuit board on its sides.. Never touch any components, it will damage your circuit board.

New Seagate FreeAgentPro USB eSATA 500GB power on light not glows

Thank you for your reply.

I have solved the problem with local help.

Printed installation manual of Seagate 500 GB eSATA external hard drive has not properly mentioned how to use power on/off switch once connected to mains. I could get local help, who has already used the device. On/Off switch to be pressed for few seconds after mains connected, sometimes it comes automatically once power is on and USB cable pluged to the USB port of PC if power supply is ok. There is no indicator for the power supply (before device glows) after connected to the mains. I was in confusion whether power supply is ok or not.

Finally, It was found that the problem was with mains power supply and I have changed the power socket and adapter.

Seek rate problem in Seagate 200 GB

Hey, I recommend you test the harddrive with seagates own tools.

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/

I recommend the dos version.

Also try active smart
http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/index.html

I would recommend backing up all the data from the drive, and then if the drive still has problems You should send it for warranty repairs. Shouldnt cost a thing.

You can also take it to a local pc repair shop to get all the data copyed and then sent to warranty service if nessasary it will cost thought if you do it via a shop.
