I purchased a new charger from their spare parts store (available at least in Germany) and that solved the problem for me.

On my charger the same thing happened. I changed the capacitor of 220 micro Farad 25 V and returned to work. Thank you very much. Here from the city of Joinville in Brazil.?

This is the charger, its getting a reading from the battery that its charged when it isn't. I don't know exactly how that charger is wired but, to be suroe it is the charger, as I have had similar problems beforehand.

robin , i had the same exact problem with my charger , and it kept getting worse first it was like 15 min then 10, 5 till it was just a minute of charging. I disassembled the unit and it was a leaking capacitor. I changed it and it worked fine. it costs only a few cents! Good luck

when changing Caps you can gradually step them "up", this will allow for greater capacitance and keep the unit from having the same issue. In this case, I would recommend a 250-280 @ 25v.

Hi I have same problem. But whar volt is the 220 uF capacitor. As far I can see there more than one 2220 uF. One is 16v and other is 25v. Mayby one af them is an other component, but I can't see the difference.

Changing the 220uF capacitor helped me.
How to identify the problem: Have a look at www.badcaps.net
and this photo from them.

Had exactly the same problem with the same resolution. Maybe Dremel was sold a batch of dodgy capacitors?

How can you check if the cap i leaked?

  • Anonymous May 17, 2012

Im wondering if the problem is related to a broken battery or a leaked capacitor.

  • Anonymous Apr 02, 2013

You can see if it is concave or convex on the top. It should be concave (compare to other capacitors if you are uncertain). The change is very easy and the component it self costs around 0,2 Euros so even if you can't se if it is leaking change it and try! Much cheaper and easier than sending it for repair. If you do not know how ask a friend that has any basic knowledge in elektroniks and he/she will be able to help you. I fixed it and I havn't used my electronics skills since school 20 year ago... :-)

Make sure you get an electrolytic type capacitor and observe the polarity. Another charger working again now thanks to the advice above.

Change the capacitor 220uF and it will most certainly work again. I got the idea from FixYa and it solved my problem!
Easy to change just 2 soldering points and a component costing around 0,2 Euros. If you do not know how to operate a soldering tool ask someone for a quick assistance. The switch takes around 2 min (1,5 min to open the charger and 0,5 min to change the component!).

My relatively new stylus runs for a short while and then turns itself off! Any small restence on the tip while in use also seems to turn it off. Please tell me what the possible cause is.

Battery is flat or has a problem, the dremel does monitor voltage/current and shutdown to prevent battery damage, failure or fire. First step is to ensure the charge is working properly.

My stylus is doing exactly the same thing. l was advised by numerous people to change the capacitor in the charging dock, they also said that you can find youtube videos to guide you through it (the capacitor only cost a few cents when l bought it). I really should finish doing that job, although l did actually remove the 'screws'' from the base, l warn you- they are triangle and a nightmare to unscrew, see if you can find a triangle screwdriver BEFORE you start, or you'll end up doing what l did and destroying a perfectly good straight screwdriver!??.
