There are particular blinks meaning on sony TV. I can give you the problem from your sony tv if you specify or count how times the LED flashed.

On Sony the standby or red is for shutdown---

If you unplug the set and plug it back and turn it on and it repeats this look to see if the light is either constantly blinking or blinking a specific number of blinks---specific number would be an error code.

I have not repaired this particular model. But sometimes there is an IC they refer to as a standby IC. It may also be known as a controller IC. I call it the powerline regulator. And in one case the older Sony Projection TV had an audio output IC with a standby built into this IC. So,this advice is refering to a standby IC. And this IC may be in another form already mentioned. Please visit a Sony Tech. The work inside a projection TV is very complicated, you will need to see the specialist. My Sony trinitron has the stero lite on steady and standby lite flashes four times then pauses and repeats. Can you tell me the circuit/condition causing the set to not turn on.

Sony Trinitron TV. Worked well last evening. Now picture won't go on. When power is turned on, standby/timer red light flashes, but picture or sound does not work.

IC/high power transister(s) and/or other componentshas gone bad gone bad - usually from a power surge. These will have to be replaced. A technician should check these out for you. 

Please count standby light blinks and let me know.
There would be pause of 3 seconds in blinks.
Also confirm is it Sony KP-57HW40 model?
