SOURCE: MY HP DESIGNJET 500 DOESNT WORK

System Error: 86:01
Problem
Description:
Carriage-Axis shutdown.
Corrective Action: If this error code appeared but was NOT caused by a paper jam, then
try the following:
Too much friction in the Slider Rod. Enter the Printer Information
utility and check the Scan-Axis usage. If the
percentage is close to 100%, then lubricate the Slider Rod.
The Carriage is bumping into the Service Station. If the carriage
is stuck at the right hand side of the Printer and cannot be moved
out to the center of the Print Platen it is because the Service
Station cannot uncap the Printheads. In this case replace the
Service Station/Aerosol Fan Assembly
 Perform the Carriage Movement test

check the ports first.. make sure that the printer is set as default ( make sure it has the green tick and the status "ready" or "online" on the printer icon in the printers&faxes. and if u want to connect it wirelessly, you have to install it as usb first before changing to wireless........

Dear sir;I believe you can try " cold reset", that's means going to clear all data from the printer memory and sets all the defaults back to the factory settings.performing a "cold reset" resets the jetDireect configuraion. to avoid making changes to yourconfiguration, remove the jetDirect card before performing a cold reset. if possible, print a configuration page prior to performing a cold reset. this will document current settings for later reference.
to perform a cold reset;
1, turn off the printer.
2, while pressing "go", turn the printer on. COLD RESET appears briefly on the display, then INITIALIZING appears.after a few seconds, RESTORING FACTORY SETTING appears on the display, followed by OFFLINE.the cold reset is complete.
3, press "go" to return the printer online "ready " appearson the display.
Little bit complicated but is easy ,hope can take care your problem, GOOD LUCK! Let me know the resolve please!
HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY !!!

SOURCE: HP Photosmart Printer, Mac won't recognize with USB

Sounds like their is not communications between your printer and computer. Could be a bad USB cable - swap out and see if that fixes it. If not it could be a faulty USB port on the computer or printer. You can check the computer USB port by connecting another device, but there is no way to check the HP's USB port. I would also check printer USB port for dust bunnies! If you're not able to resolve, I think it is time for another printer.

When i try to print something a window pops up that says "communication not available" ive tried restarting, unpluging the power cord and the usb cord...nothing seems to work

This problem could be caused by several factors - incorrect USB port selection, your printer is not set as your default printer, firewall, etc. This article in the Lexmark website: Communication Not Available' Error Message and Print Job Stalls in Print Queue will help you determine the cause and resolve your printing issue.

Printer responds to nothing. The drivers have been safely uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I've gotten the latest updates from HP. When I ask it to print it gives me the preferences menu, but when I...

try a known good USB cable, or at least try using a different USB port on your PC. Also, see to it that your USB cable is not weaved through power cables as they may create interference.
On a different note, does your printer show any signs of life when you plug the power cord in: LCD blinks and stays on with a "Ready" message, does the printer align heads, rolls in paper etc? If none of these things is happening when you plug in the power cord then you may be dealing with a bad power supply or a bad printer altogether.

When printer is turned on it reads 256MB and that is it. No menu buttons or anything else will work. Never get ready light.

First, try to unplug and wait 30 sec. then replug the printer into the wall to try to reset it. Then, read below to see if there is a solution if the '256mb' display problem persists. Control panel display is blank No display message Cause Solution The printer’s on/off button is in the standby position. Verify that the printer is on. Fans might run while the printer is in standby mode (off). The printer’s memory DIMMs are defective or installed incorrectly. Verify that the printer’s memory DIMMs are correctly installed and are not defective. The power cord is not firmly plugged into both the printer and the power receptacle. Turn off the printer and then disconnect and reconnect the power cord. Turn the printer back on. The line voltage is incorrect for the printer power configuration. Connect the printer to a proper voltage source, as specified on the Power Rating Label on the back of the printer. The power cord is damaged or excessively worn. Replace the power cord. The power source receptacle is not working correctly. Connect the printer to a different power receptacle. Printer is on, but nothing prints Cause Solution The printer’s Ready indicator light is not lit. Press STOP to return the printer to the Ready state.

Problem with USB cord, but the usb cord fits in printer and laptop fine. Computer screen says Printer ready, but when I try to print a message says check USB cord. Don't understand

Try using another USB port if you have one. If the others are full, disconnect one of your devices from the USB port and try your printer there. For some reason, switching the USB port sometimes makes devices connect. Good luck!

Kodak G610 prints from docked camera, but not from the computer

it is advisable to use a recomended usb cable for your printer dock. you can try also to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver on your computer. just simply follow this steps:

Remove the drivers that your operating system automatically installed on your computer:
-- On your desktop, select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Printers & Faxes.
-- Remove all Kodak printers.
Right-click the printer icon.
Select Delete.
-- On your desktop, right-click My Computer, then select Properties.
-- Select the Hardware tab.
-- Click Device Manager.
-- In the Universal Serial Bus controllers list, right-click USB Composite Device, then select Uninstall.
note: make sure that the only device connected to your computer usb port is your G610 printer dock to make sure that the USB Composite Device that you uninstall is for your G610, most of the devices connected to you usb port has USB Composite Device also.
-- In the Imaging devices list, if any Kodak printers appear, right-click the Kodak device, then select Uninstall.
-- Disconnect the USB cable from your printer.
-- Restart the computer
-- Power Cycle the printer
-- once your computer is ready connect the G610 to your computer
-- check if you have a pop up window display on your computer informing you that your computer found a hardware device
-- you can go to printer and faxes and check if the G610 printer icon is on the list
-- try to make a test print

Verify that your computer is communicating with your printer:
-- Check that your printer is on.
-- verify if the USB cable meets your printer specifications.
-- Check that the USB cable and the power cord are securely connected to your printer and your computer.
