Windows 8.1 Store Error 0x80072ee7 Fix?

You may receive an error message when you search for available updates...

To resolve this error, examine the Hosts file. (This file may also be named Hosts.sam.) Make sure that the file does not list any static IP entries for the Windows Update Web site or for the Microsoft Update Web site.

The Hosts file is located in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder. To view the Hosts file, you may have to associate the file with Notepad. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the Hosts file.
  2. Click Open With, and then select Notepad from the list of programs.
If the Hosts file contains a static IP address that is associated with Windows Update or with Microsoft Update, comment the entry by adding the # sign at the beginning of the entry. You can also delete the whole line and save changes to the Hosts file.

Note Programs, such as Web accelerators, DNS accelerators, DNS caching utilities, and Spyblockers, can add static IP entries for the Windows Update Web site or for the Microsoft Update Web site to your Hosts file. This scenario can cause Windows Update or Microsoft Update to fail.

Virtual Server / Port Forwarding does not work from within the Local Network

When you use port forwarding in Virtual Servers and try to test it from within the local network, it may fail. When for example, port 80 is forwarded to a web server in the local network, you may get the router's home page instead of the web server's one or you may get nothing at all. When you try to use the server from outside the local network it will work fine though.

This can happen when you try to access the router's WAN IP address from within the local network. In order for port forwarding to work from within the local network, the router needs to support a feature called NAT loopback. This is not a part of the specification of Belkin routers and modem-routers, so most of them will not have the feature, and if a router does have it, it is not supported.

In order to use the server from within the LAN, you can address it by its internal LAN IP address (e.g. 192.168.2.101).

If the WAN IP address has a DNS host name associated with it, such as www.example.com, and you need to use that name to connect to the server, you can do so by associating the name to the local IP address in the hosts file (a file called hosts with no extension). This file lists IP addresses and host names and is used before actual DNS lookups are done. You can add lines to the hosts file using a text editor like Notepad on Windows. The lines look like:

192.168.2.101 www.example.com www.otherdomain.com # comment

The lines contain an IP address and one or more host names separated by white space. Anything that follows a hash sign is a comment and will be ignored. You will need to change the hosts file on all machines in the LAN that need access to the server.

On Windows, the hosts file can be found in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, in C:\WinNT\System32\Drivers\Etc on Windows 2000, and in C:\Windows on Windows 98 and ME. You need to have administrator rights to edit the file; on Windows Vista and Windows 7 you need to run Notepad as administrator.

I have accidently blocked e bay on google chrome. i have tried deleting google chrome and then reinstalling it as advised but to no avail

You might check you HOSTS file to see if that web site has been locked out in it.
It's located at: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS
Open it with NotePad
HOSTS has no extension.

A normal HOSTS file will look like this:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

If you cannot get to ebay.com, it may have an entry in it pointing ebay to your localhost IP.

127.0.0.1 ebay.com

Resolve home domain

I assume you mean you have an Internet domain mapped to your home or office broadband IP address. First of all, you need a static IP address but I assume you already have that. The biggest problem is usually that the broadband router will not route anything from "inside" to it's external IP address. In theory, you should be able to set this up but I have never managed to get it working!. There are two ways round it:

(a) If you have an internal DNS server, set up a zone for your domain & point the A records at your servers' local address (192.1698.0.x or whatever).

(b) If you don't have a DNS server, edit the "hosts" file which is at "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" in Windows XP (note that there is no extension on the filename!). Ascertain your PC's IP address and add a line similar to this to the file:
192.168.0.x www.mydomain.com
^
|
Your PC's IP address
Substitute your own domain name for "mydomain.com"
If you have other hostsnames (e.g. mail.mydomain.com) then add extra lines with the appropriate IP address (if they're the same server then the same address). Save the file & all should work. You would have to do this on all PC's from which you want to access the domain.

If you're using Linux or MacOS then you can still edit the hosts file - but you probably know where to find it.

If I was wrong & you're actually talking about a Windows domain, then you have to join the computers to the domain & that's bets done from the server management application or, if you don't have that, the appropriate AD control applet.
