I can sweep the whole house but it doesnt look like there is anything in the bag after Im done. The house hadnt been swept for weeks.

COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THE KIRBY VACUUM TROUBLESHOOTING

Fits all Electrolux canisters/tanks made after 1954, (except Lux 9000, Guardian, Epic 8000, Renaissance, Harmony or Oxygen models) Generic 12 pack of Electrolux vacuum bags.

Several questions:
What does the smell seem to be? If rubber, check the belt and brushroll for free rotation. If a musty smell, check the bag, it may need replaced with a new paper bag. If it has an electrical smell, like hot insulation, then the motor needs checked.

do you use a docking station to put your bag on or is it just a push on bag? also when you turn on the vac with an empty bag in it, does the outter bag blow up?

On all Electrolux canister vacuum cleaners, there is a kill switch, that will not allow the machine to turn on without a bag in it. Sometimes when replacing the bag, the bag is placed in a position where the switch is not being activated.

When you open the bag housing, it should look like this;


You'll notice in the bottom right corner of the bag housing, the kill switch to the vacuum cleaner.


Try plugging the vacuum cleaner in, and while you are pressing this kill switch down, turn on the vacuum cleaner. Does the vacuum cleaner turn on/off when you push/release the kill switch? If it does, simply just get a new bag, and make sure that the new bag is covering the kill switch, and close the door of the vacuum cleaner.

If it still doesn't start, let me know and I'll try to help you diagnosis the machine differently. I'd say that 6 out of 10 times, this kill switch is the problem.

nothing wrong pl refit hose and switch on

I have had this vacuum for about 5 years now. You need to change the belt every 6 months. Walmart sells a bag of 3 replacement belts.
