The cord has an internal break and it made contact and burned through the insulation, your arm happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Have the cord replaced before you use the iron again. If you happen to touch that bare spot on the cord you could be electrocuted.

I need to repair a damaged fabric cover on my euro pro steam iron. the fabric cord cover is frayed and the rubber steam cord gets extremely hot where the fabric is frayed.

You will need to obtain a completely new power cord kit from the manufacturer. If you are not familiar with doing electrical repairs, you may want to have a technician do it. Insulation on the power cord is important for several reasons; especially a method to keep you safe from a fire, electrical burn, shock, etc.

Why does cord on steam iron always twist any help suggestions ? What is the little thing for on the cord ?

The cord twists constantly because it is the wrong type for the intended use.

The little thing on the iron end of the cord prevents twisting at the point where it enters the iron.

How do I replace the cord on my steam iron?

You can buy replacement cords and ends at any decent hardware store to make your own cord. However you need to disassemble your iron to make the change. I would only recommend trying this if you are familiar with doing such a task, you wouldn't want to risk a misfire and causing a fire.

When I plugged iron in sparks came out at wall and iron where the cord connects.

Hi,

If you've had this iron for a while it sounds like the cord may be frayed.
switch it off at the wall and unplug it, check the cord for wear, if the insulation is frayed, torn or broken and there are black burn marks on the cord where you saw sparks then the cord needs to be replaced.
DONT plug the iron back in until the cord is replaced.

Otherwise If there are no breaks or black burn marks on the cord, then your power point may be faulty and needs to be replaced!

I hope this was helpful

The cord gets hot

You have a short somewhere in the cord. As this is a risk for fire, the Iron should either be taken for repair or replaced.

The back comes straight off. All you need to do is take a small screwdriver and pry against the bottom metal piece, then it should start to come off. Make sure you take it off carefully so as not to break anything. Pry evenly all around the plastic end cap until it comes off.

After that, you can replace the cord. It's connected via two crimp caps. Easy to replace. Just make SURE you purchase a cord rated for an iron.. DO NOT clip the plug end from an extension cord or similar and use it. The iron uses 16 gauge HEATER CORD. Easy to find, but you could melt your power cord and possibly cause a fire if you don't replace it with the correct type.
