All you need is a cable with the appropriate plugs at each end. The iPod takes a 1/8-inch mini stereo plug (same kind as the headphones you plug in) and the receiver needs RCA plugs for the right and left channel inputs. Radio Shack sells one, and you can see what you need from the photo. Just connect the iPod's headphone jack to an available input on the receiver and select that source. You'll need to juggle the volume settings on both; I suggest starting with the iPod volume about halfway up and then adjust the receiver for a comfortable level from the speakers.

Replacing ouput transistors and probably a couple of resistors is best left up to a repair shop. The entire main board needs to be removed to access the solder side of the board, many screws and several connectors.
