The screen on my laptop is very dark can u tell me what settinggs to brighten it up please ???

try adjusting your contrast. Sometimes a full blown contrast setting will blacken the screen. If that doesnt help...contact tech support of the company that manufactured the laptop.

Inorder to brighten up the screen ,try to find the key present on keyboard like "Fn" and also one more which resembles like sun.
This Sun like key will be present in the Function key(F1, F2 Etc)
Press both of the button at same time and adjust the brightness as per you requirement.

And also you can change the same in the power options in the properties where we can change the screensaver

To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out; usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

The Back-light on your LCD screen is bad, your crystals aren't illuminating, so it is dark.... very dark.

You need a new LCD screen.

are you on your battery or plugged in? It's not likely to make it as dark as you described but if you press the function key 'fn' key and usually the up arrow key (which has a sun symbol) it should brighten. From there if this dioesn't work you can try downloading new graphics drivers as last ditch effort but after that will require opening and checking connection to make sure screen hasn't died.

Go to Control Panel...to DISPLAY...and you should either find a adjustment there to brighten your screen. Or look On the "F-Series" keys or somewhere on your keyboard for a Brighten SUN or dark SUN, which you have to press the blue key along with that F series key to brighten or darken the laptop. Hi, i have an Acer 5100 and the screen is really dark... can only just make out the screen. I have tried the fn key trick with no luck. I have replaced the inverter and also the screen.... again no joy. Can someone help me please :)

Push and hold the Fn button and for decrease of brightnes push F7 for increase push F6 . So Fn+F7 dark: Fn+F6 bright.

Try holding the "FN" key while tapping the "F10" key. If memory serves me correctly that will brighten the display on some laptops.
