I just got a new Dish VIP 211K system. I am having trouble programming the Dish remote to control my Sony DVD-R/VCR combo system. None of the codes in the book are working with it. I need to program it to the new system, because it seems that the Dish timed program settings aren't working with my timed recording settings on the DVD/VCR. The DVD/VCR isn't turning on to make the recordings. Thanks for any help! Cat

Hello, Cheri Torres with DISH Network Customer Service here.I came across your post and wanted to see if I could help. We have a fewdifferent codes for each of our different models of remotes. I will list herefor you the best codes for the more popular models of remotes and also theinstructions for addressing the remote to the TV. The best codes for the SonyDVD/VCR are 817, 778, 818, 768,005 and 002. I hope you find these codes andinstructions useful but if you do not I will also list here for you theinstructions for running a power scan which can sometimes find the code foryou. Instructions for addressing your remote to your DVD/VCR

  1. Press and hold the desired Mode button until all mode button backlights come on, then release.
  2. Use the number buttons to enter the device code corresponding to the equipment. AUX Mode: Before entering the device code:
    • Press 0 for a TV
    • Press 1 for a VCR/DVD
    • Press 2 for any other device.
  3. Press the pound (#) button Note: The light will blink off after each digit is entered and then return to a steady light.
  4. Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
Instructions for running a power scan

  1. With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button back lights illuminate, then release.
  2. Press and release the Power button. AUX Mode: Before pressing and releasing the Power button
    • Press 0 for a TV
    • Press 1 for a VCR/DVD
    • Press 2 for any other device.
    Then Press STAR (*)
  3. Press the Up button once a second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. Note: If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
  4. Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.

To setup your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote, follow these steps to enter the remote control codes to control a device with the AUX mode:

  1. Turn the device you would like to control on.
  2. Find the brand name of the device you would like to control in the control code tables on page 112 of the Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 User Manual.
  3. Press and hold the AUX mode button until all the other buttons light up, and then let go. The AUX mode button will flash.
  4. Press 0 for a TV, 1 for a VCR, or 2 for a receiver, amplifier or tuner.
  5. Enter one of the three-digit codes from the tables in the manual.
  6. Press POUND (#). The mode button will flash three times.
  7. Press POWER to turn off the device. If the device does not turn off, skip to step 9.
  8. Turn the device back on and try some of the other buttons to make sure they work. If the code works, stop here.

Dish Pro record code for Mag combo
ZNREL, I've done this with Dish Pro before. Setup the Dish remote to control the Mag combo in the VCR position. Press the SAT button and select the guide. Go to the program in the guide and select it. The "record this program" routine should pop up, set it up. Here's the key, make sure the Dish remote has the VCR button selected and that the remote is placed where it can "see" the Mag combo. At the set time, the Dish remote will change the DishPro to the proper channel and then issue s "record" command via infrared to the Mag combo to start recording. DishNet has all of the device codes to their remotes downloadable from their site.

Dish network
With the dish remote and do a code search as described in the remote manual and see if you can find it that way. If you go through the entire code search and none of them turn off the VCR/DVD combo, then there is nothing you can do, as those codes in the remote are all stored in the remote and they cannot be programed in. If you do not have a remote manual to set up the remote, to do a code search, simply go to the dishnetwork web site and search for it.

What is DISH Solo DVR VIP 612 Limited Mode?

You can program your remote control in Limited Mode to keep from accidentally changing the channel on your TV or VCR and causing a snowy or blue screen.

  • When the remote control is in Limited Mode for TV mode, you will only be able to use POWER, MUTE, and VOLUME functions for your TV.
  • When the remote control is in Limited Mode for VCR mode, you will only be able to use POWER and the VCR functions for your VCR.
Note: Limited Mode is not used with amplifiers (AUX mode).
